I'm mostly curious about the Columbus location. I've been searching for a better quality of life (i.e. sleeping in my own bed) than my airline gig. Not necessarily days off but more consistent schedule.

The information I've read (could be a little dated) talks about two days off a week which rarely happens, and a lot of long shifts.

Thank you to anyone that can help with some recent info!
Honestly, if you can still fly, do that. The career earnings will far exceed what you can make at a simulator training facility. Basically, whatever you get hired at is what you can expect to make for the next 10+ years. They will give you token increases, but nothing like your career progression would play out at a major airline.

I understand what you are saying about the career earnings part. However, I'm looking for a little bit more consistency in a schedule.

With that being said, can anyone shed a little light on what a schedule may be like? I'm interested in the Columbus location. My understanding is that schedules could vary based on the type of training conducted at each location. (i.e. airline or corporate)

Have you looked at someone like MAC or ameriflight? I thought most runs are out, wait and back.

Schedules will vary from month to month. There was a significant pay raise in December of last year that makes the job one that you could definitely make a career out of. The Columbus facility has a lot more absolutes with the NetJets relationship. That helps with schedules as long as their isn't much turnover.

When staffing is adequate, there is more time for appropriate training. Staffing is just so inconsistent. That said, it's a very, very easy job if you enjoy teaching, training and helping others. Our program tries to give instructors between 12 and 15 days off a month and it's been much closer to 15 than 12 in most months.

Columbus is a really good facility with lots of folks eager to help new instructors and we need more good ones.

Good luck!

Does FSI hire part-time instructors, or do you have to be full-time first? Also, what is the hourly pay rate for part-time?
I live in Dallas, so I am interested in the DFW location.

Absolutely, they do. I'm not sure what the rate is for part time but they need the help everywhere.

Just let them know how you can help them and what your time is worth. See if you can find a suitable answer.

I just spoke with DFW center...young lady was nice but probably not the best source for information. She said they are definitely hiring, but all positions are full-time unless specifically noted as part-time on the job opening page. Also said pay was $85K minimum. Not sure about schedules (QOL). Said the hiring process takes about 1 month.
As has been asked by others, what is a realistic schedule (day/week/month)?
Lots of "other than good" posts out there about QOL.

Worked there for 7 years. Schedule can be good to very crappy. It all depends on staffing and client demand. Flight Safety never and I mean never turns down a client request. If a client wants to train on Christmas day it will happen.
