Hiring / training

Don't we still have quite a few airplanes being delivered in the near future? I get a cooling, but a freeze? With all time high attrition, and deliveries, I don't know how we can stop.

Next thing you know hiring completely stopped, hiring pools were flushed, early outs were on the table, warn notices/furloughs were imminent, and there was going to be hugely expensive training events because everyone was going to be moving seats. And then a year and a half later the pilot shortage finally happened.
Who knows. Anyone who says they know, or anything is guaranteed in an order book is lying.
Don’t believe anything until you’re in the seat and past “V1, Rotate”

They say it’s an ill wind that blows no good. A lot of regionals are CA limited with big backups in their FO hiring. Which means that the second tier majors (AS, B6, NK, and F9) are getting a shot at some of the better pilot candidates who have not yet done much if any 121 flying. Makes it a lot easier on recruiting if not on training people or the line CAs that will be doing a lot of unpaid OE training.

You have limited time and leverage in contract negotiations. How much of either would you spend on a ONE TIME $7 item in a 35 year career? Not all battles are worth fighting, even if you are in the right. Spend the effort on something that’s actually worth it. Something that won’t make a neutral arbiter think you are a cheap entitled fool.

I bet it’s a training backlog. Only thing that makes sense. Which is great because it means they can’t out hire attrition which I’ve been saying all along.

I think Biffle is freaking out about the economy and load factors. I think they are going to reduce block hours going forward

To your second point, I think that there is a good track record of low cost airlines doing well in down economies..We really haven't seen a down economy yet. Covid was different. We might start to see a real slow down in the near future. Then we will see what's what. All the airlines are now adjusting down their forecast profits.
