That’s what I figured. I haven’t had a chance to poke around nav blue quite yet but will in a couple days. Haven’t looked at March pairings yet but based on past trends. PHX (and I think LAS) had plenty of locals with 5am reports. Probably go real senior anyway but that’s not my thing. Also plenty of 11pm reports for the ol’ redeye 2 day. Some stuff in the middle but not as much. Seems like a D reserve would be getting plenty of use on those redeyes. But I guess even with a RAP starting at noon, you’re not necessarily safe from those if the trip is scheduled to end in your 16hr RAP (ie 4am home time, which I feel like I saw trips getting to Florida just before 6am which would be 4am home time).
Anyway I knew what I was getting into, just wanted to check my hunch that late reserve could get used a lot. Especially since every new hire seems to be out west lately.

How long are they saying is the IOE wait for you guys? I've heard 2 weeks and I've heard 6-8 weeks.

Reserve us generally 18 on and 12 off. Min guarantee of 75 hours. Long call is a 12 hour report and short call is a 2 hour report. If available, long call gets called first. If you don’t want to fly, it seems the late short call slot (D block) is the way to go.
Generally, about 75% of a base’s schedules are fixed lines and approx 25% are reserve lines. They’ll usually do a higher reserve percentage in a newer base for a few months. You want to be top 75% in base to be a consistent line holder.

Is it fairly easy to pick up trips/flying while on reserve?

Yeah what the other guy said. Some in my class have been done for about 2 weeks now. Haven’t heard any updates. The rest of us are finishing type rides this week. Even the schedulers haven’t been able to give them answers. Hearing a week or two, hearing over a month, hearing it depends on which domicile you’re in, hearing they’re DH people all over to other bases to get it done.

It was easy before the company eliminated premium. People would drop lots of their schedule into open time in order to be available for premium drops. Now that premium is all but gone, lots of trips are getting snagged almost immediately out of open time. A double win for the company and a double whammy for the pilot group. (It would be an interesting case study in game theory) I expect we will see more open time as the summer/vacation months start to hit.
