Is the Aviation Industry Racist?
Is the aviation industry racist against white men?
Think about it. I have dozens of male white friends that have been working at regionals for years, and the majors won't even look in their direction.
Meanwhile, I have female and non white male friends who could work at a regional for a couple months and be sucked up by a major. It was the same when they were CFIs, and they got hired by the regionals the instant that they got their minimum ratings.
I get that diversity is a good thing, but isn't it a little unfair when female/PoC aviators get special treatment over white male aviators?

He has a point about the preselection of non-whites and females. They truly are indeed being given preference over white males and hired at lower times than males.
Do I agree with their being given preference. Yes, I think that they make up such a small segment of aviation that it is all right and I would hate to be part of an organization that only hires white males. Where is the fun in that?
What I am curious to find out is how many are hired at lower times. Is this practice prevalent?

Dont want to get involved, bc I dont want the snowflakes ( read females and all those that "are lucky") out there to melt, and start asking for a safe haven saying that is not true, but you are damn right. Know 3 girls that logged no more than 1000 hours in the 121, and 2 are / about to start at delta, the other one was at one regional for 11 month got picked up by JetBlue.
Meanwhile I have fellow pilots with 5000+ hours applying and what they all get??? crickets....

It's 2017. You can be whatever you want to be. Who can tell you no? I'm a white male. But I identify as an Asian- African American Female Pansexual with one leg and a speech impediment. I just hope Delta doesn't do an obvious double take when I show up to the interview. Things might get uncomfortable.

Racist no, unfair maybe you have an argument. Life isn't fair and there's good times ahead for all. Keep a positive attitude and you'll get where you want to be.

Have you been to a job fair though? It's like an Avalanche hit the conference wing of the Marriot. As far as women, what there's like 5% of them? Of course they'll be snatched up.

Ok I'll chime in...... they should be hired in line with the rest of us it's completely bogus they are being hired at hours well well below everyone else.

I'm sure that HR departments would tend to agree with you, but they're all hiring in exorbitant numbers, so if they don't hire them now, their competitors will. It's the same reason why military pilots who are much more scarce than they once were, are getting multiple offers.
