If you are talking of the Philly incident, I think it was the officer that responded who accidentally fired the shot while trying to unload the hammerless .38. I could be wrong.

Heck, we used to do that in the late 90s/early 2000s. Then again, I grew up in a place where everyone knew everyone and we were taught to safely use guns at a young age...not cower at the thought of a gun. Guy used to leave guns in the gun racks on their trucks. Then one day, someone (non-local) driving by the school saw one and called the Superintendent. This was right after Columbine so people had lost their minds. The Superintendent simply told my buddy to take the gun home and get back to class.
Agreed. However, everyone here is automatically assuming HE put the gun in there. Never underestimate the crazy in a scorned lover. It's happened before... I don't know about you guys, but I don't check EVERY pocket on my bag before I go to work. I also don't use that bag for anything other than work.
I'm guessing it's closer to thousands of guns that are accidentally (or not) carried on every year. In general, it has not been a big deal. I am by no means saying that they shouldn't be working hard to catch all the guns.
I don't think this will cause KCM to go away, but it sure doesn't help.

A lover wasnt arrested. The pilot with the firearm, however, was.
There are thousands, perhaps tens of thousands if crew members I dont know. I dont know their names, their faces, or care who they are. They dont know me, nor should they care who I am.
I should care who the SWA F/O is, because he made a mistake that lead to his arrest? Will it set the world right if I know his name, or memorize his face? Ought we send hate mail or write things on his garage door, or burn little crosses on his lawn? Grow up. Don't know him, don't care to know him, don't care who he is. SWA is more than aware, and he can face legal and company disciplinary action. It's neither my intent nor place to offer scorn, discipline, to blackball, or otherwise go out of my way to have anything to do with the person.
You make up your little voodoo doll and stab it repeatedly with push pins if it serves your righteous indignation, and if that's not enough for you, then go big. Buy a cross, don your pointy white hat, and go lynch the poor bastard as you seem wont to do. It's pathetic and juvenile, but whatever uncurls your toes in the dead of night. You'll live a little longer if you stop worrying about the other guy and get on with life.

I believe it was in the 90's that a scorned/crazy wife set her husband up, took a long long time for them to back track it to her and the truth to come out.
Thought it was an AA pilot but can't remember for sure.

This right here! Happened to a squadronmates friend. Thankfully, it was back in the 90s and people didn't totally lose their minds. He's a DAL guy, and he kept his job. Might be the same instance.
I do check everything before going to work. Each time. When you
pass through security, you're vouching for the contents of that bag and the rest of your gear. We dont undertake a flight without verifying the fuel. Why would one undertake a trip without verifying that all gear is correct and ready?

Is this your interview video JB.

I finish a trip, wash my clothes, repack my bag and put it away until my next trip. There are 3 pockets that I never use, therefor I don't even open them. I live alone, so unless someone breaks into my house and slips something into my bag, I should be ok. Now I guess if you have an angry significant other, you might want to pat down your bag.
My flight bag is totally different, after forgetting my ID once, I check that mofo like 9 times before I leave.

No, I don't mean that. Otherwise, I'd have said that.
No, this is a web board.
Again, if you check fuel, route, clearance, flight plan, FMC loading, etc, on every flught, why would you not check your flight bag? Check the car for oil, tire pressures, enough gas for the trip, toothpaste, shirts, ID, and of course, no pistol in the bag.
"I don't check every time" simply means playing the odds. It's contrary to what we do as professionals.
