qotsa actually DOES fly for a ULCC.....got hired from the right seat of a dog$hit regional, right when upgrade at yellow got REALLY short. I’m thinking he’s pretty happy right where he’s at.

I think we should all remember no one knows who is at the right place until you retire.

 

I dont know if I 100% agree with that. Lots of guys got on with Legacy carriers and their work rules at the right time; and with the benefit of time value money, they will be alright, regardless of what happens when they retire.

Now I agree that what is bad today can be great tomorrow; but TiredSoul acting like getting "relegated" to an ULCC is some punishment, while being at a lower paying cargo gig himself, its a bold statement, Cotton.

 

There was a time all kinds of “colorful” behavior was forgiven or, at least, turned a blind eye to. Those days are gone, everyone is a walking P&L statement today. Causing more trouble than your worth is a quick way to writing a resume.

 

Overall, still 100% agree you cannot judge your career until you have officially retired. How many moves you made, transitioned, furloughed, pink slips, closures, aviation related divorce(s) and obviously not your fault, hmmmm its life. Health is a big one and most judge it by the cash you bring/brought in. Timing of your retirement can flip you as well. Like someone said before - bad today, great tomorrow OR how about now - it was soooo great yesterday and dismal now due to this particular pandemic. And to think this can’t happen again is naive at best looking back at least 50 years. Once again it is choices not only made by you but quite a bit of timing/luck. Aviation is once again cyclic and out of your control which is undeniable. Staying positive is great and do the best you can, but the truth will lie at the end. Wives, girlfriends, family time, schedules, pay, benefits, overall job satisfaction, etc. Whatever it may be, may you have/had a grand time during your flight to the end of days.

 

sure a legacy is great but if UAL goes under I sure wish I would have been at FedEx or even Atlas

Anyone who does cargo should be in good shape for a while, especially Purple/Brown.

 

Mostly I have flown with many who are afraid to speak with the FAs. I was having a free beer here at the Embassy Suites with the FAs and just kind of swapping stories before dinner time. The captain wanted to meet about an hour later to have dinner. He got down early and sat in a chair on the opposite side of the room, just looking at all of us until it was time for dinner. Pretty strange when people will avoid a free beer just to not have to speak with those in a certain work group.

No I'm not going to bang a bunch of FAs or go into someone's room alone with them. I'm not stupid. One can talk with people and enjoy one adult beverage without getting in trouble. It's embarrassing what some of the captains I fly with think sometimes.

 

Sad and pathetic, isn't it? I'm willing to bet he's nothing to write home to mother about, as well!
