No I'm not going to bang a bunch of FAs or go into someone's room alone with them. I'm not stupid. One can talk with people and enjoy one adult beverage without getting in trouble. It's embarrassing what some of the captains I fly with think sometimes.
Have zero idea what the conversation was at this example but I have had a few times where I have sat down just like the above mention Captain did, and it was 4 FAs and the FO going on non stop about work work work work, scheduling, work work work scheduling. And my brain instantly unplugged and I just sat and enjoyed my beverage. So it might not be he did not want to talk to "certain work groups," versus the topic of conversation. You were there, so you know better than me, but just trying to throw and example out that I have been a part of.

There should be a class in indoc about how to talk about life vs work when out for dinner and drinks. Yes, I see the irony, being on a pilot forum....I am a work in progress

Personally.....I don’t even like to hang out on overnights. I just spent all damm day working with you, now I owe you my time off? It’s literally my only chance to be alone and get some down time. Overnights are spent exercising or enjoying some solace.

Depends entirely on who you are, and how early I had to get up that morning.

completely agree. If one of the infamous Skywest orgys isn’t happening then I just assume eat alone. We don’t need to hang out. This is work I’m not on vacation or a once a year convention away from my family.

Preach. I'm going to my room and watching The Sopranos or something else on HBO

How do you know what your Captain was thinking? What are you 12, 13 years old? I don't know many Captains that give a crap about a free beer. He most likely was just unwinding from a long day - flying with you.

Plenty of folks can’t imagine working at Spirit or anything pax related AND plenty couldn’t ever see themselves working for any ACMI such as Atlas or even UPS/FedEx/Box Movers. Preferences vary, lifestyles are different and these priorities rule the day. Bottom Line: Doesn’t really matter where you are even if you were the “Best Pilot” in the world now walking on the streets or worse. Pandemic, Economic Downturn/Recession, Terrorism, Corporate Takeover/Bankruptcy, Merger or ones Health as the worst scenario. Everything is situation dependent/timing.

*Only you know the deep down truth if you really enjoy your choice of career and company. Many companies offer that stability (as much as this industry offers) and compensation for your expertise, etc. Every company has employees who have a list of “fix it” in their pockets, even those with the best packages overall end up demanding more - especially when leap frogged by another (Good to keep pulling each other up). Overall: It’s one thing just to work for that paycheck (we’ve all done it) and it’s another to actually enjoy the ride. Somewhere in the middle still ain’t a bad life.

It’s amazing how you managed to throw a personal attack in there somehow. Kudos!

When the guy is looking over at you and the FAs sitting at a table and he won’t even walk over and say hi...

The awkward part is when I have to try and dodge the why questions from the FAs after the frantic waving for captain paranoid to come over to the table.

We all know what the dude is thinking. I don’t have to ask. So many have straight up told me.
