Curious About Type of Approach
Hi everyone,
I was browsing through www.myairplane.com tonight, and I stumbled upon a type of approach that I haven't seen yet. The name of the approach isn't that much different, but is has a HI in it. Example: HI-ILS OR LOC RWY 36. They even have one for a VOR approach. Here's the link that shows those types of approaches. http://www.myairplane.com/databases/...00144HIL18.PDF
I'm wondering if anyone out there has any idea what that type of approach is for. Is it for military or civilian? Testing for some new reciver for an aircraft? Or just a new type of approach, just like WAAS or LAAS?

These HI approaches are used by tactical military aircraft. They come down like a greased manhole cover. The final segment is the same, but the HI means the radar and approach facilities can accept an in-close high rate of descent approach.
