Unlikely, therefore he should have better thought of his wording. Too much cognac, perhaps?

TOTD: The punk in the back of Delta Sky Magazine, quoted as saying "I take pride in breaking any box that someone tries to put me in"

What does that mean? Who are you anyway? How's this for a box: you're like 19 years old. Next time, shave before you put on a tuxedo or audition to play a gay cowboy.

While I actually find Sky to (surprisingly) be occasionally entertaining reading, the best way I have always felt about these inflight airline shills--I mean, magazines--comes from a sitcom I watched a few years ago. The female half of the couple was an aspiring writer who usually wrote articles for the airline magazines. Her boyfriend's comment was "Look, these magazines are free...and no one takes them!"

Has anyone noticed in ATL: The TV blue screens at an inactive gate, that the Company does not know how to spell Amarillo? [S3b's have lots of spare time.]

Do we fly to Amarillo?

badflaps 06-10-2013 09:17 AM

If you want to buy a hydrogen weapon, you must go to Amarillo. I don't know, the last time I was there was 27 years ago. T38's, Falcons, 737's all over the place..Terrific airport restaurant.

You are right. I used to fly a 4 day never leave Texas trip.[Back when DAL said SWA was no threat.] I guess when they blew off DFW most of Tx. went also. Since they don't go there, they don't need to spell it. So why is Amorillo on the blue screen... I'm so confused

Might as well be. With that non-rev priority, you are more likely to catch a ride on a passing submarine than on an airplane. :p

The last month before I got furloughed back in 2003 I flew an entire month where every single layover was in Michigan. I welcomed the furlough.

badflaps 06-10-2013 12:42 PM

Last downtown DTW layover, walking towards Cobo, stopped by the police, they gave me a ride.... said it was easier than doing the paperwork. By the way Inkster is aptly named.

Best damn burgers! Used to make it a point to drop into, is it Ammerrillo??? Ammollo?? when I delivered airplanes from Afton WY to the South East Coast in the mid 80s.

Ummmm in foreign ops?? Singapore?? Noooooo:cool: perhaps, your airline it may be SOP to specify IFR vs IFR in the request, unless you get your's through ACARS.

But in my part of the world the airlines of professionals don't need to specify as such.

Airlines typically don't ask for VFR, however in the states it is quite common for someone to specify IFR or VFR in your request on CD- particularly with someone who has a lot of time as a CFI alternating between IFR and VFR. Surely you haven't been overseas sipping cognac for that long?

My technique is to not state IFR as it is quite obvious, but I hardly classify it as toolish.

PDC capable stations, we use ACARS... most international places I go to do not support PDC.

Easy does it little buckaroo. This is supposed to be a humorous thread.

20+ years worth. Some of the finest too may I say:D.

FA's who have Highway to the Dangerzone as their ringtone

Anybody with a "Highway to the Dangerzone" ringtone.

Might be a good one for when the neighbors hot wife calls.

ForeverFO 07-14-2013 01:09 PM

This epic thread must... not... die.

My TOTD goes to the FA who thought she'd sneak into the cockpit's crew bunk area and steal a couple of the plastic-wrapped blanket/pillow combos. When busted in the act - "You guys always have extras, and they never have enough for us."

DeadHead 07-14-2013 02:06 PM

Anybody else find it borderline toolish when the captain's boarding PA contains a longer than needed dissertation covering the flight crews' background, experiences, and total flight time?

galaxy flyer 07-14-2013 02:16 PM

Well, it'd be REAL toolish, if the flight ended with a sea wall strike and slithering stop in front of an outbound UAL 744. :p

Definitely, especially when they stress military time, and I am ex-mil myself. It implies special skills that are N/A anyhow, it's not like the aircraft is going into combat.

And what can you say when each guy has 15,000 hours? "Uh, we're all really, really experienced..."

I always feel upstaged flying with guys like that.

"I'll be accompanied today by first officer felix mophandle who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and has logged over 5,000 hours on Microsoft Flight Simulator while the other teenagers were out partying and having sex."

Et tu Bluto 07-14-2013 06:01 PM

In over thirty years of flying for a paycheck, it seems to me that there is a disproportionately high number of pathological liars in commercial aviation. Is this my just my imagination? By the way, in order to be relevant to this thread, they were pretty much all tools.

CheapTrick 07-14-2013 06:29 PM

Yep. I plumbed on the L1011 for a few years and flew often with a Captain who would rather swallow razor blades than tell the truth. The crazy thing was that he was as rich as Midas. Owned a company that leased surplus military equipment to movie makers. Came from a rich Memphis family who owned car dealerships, a nationally branded family company (he was on the BOD), and apparently 1/2 of West TN. And he had quite an amazing flying background that needed no embellishment (F104's, F84s).

Yet, he lied about everything. I listened to the same stories change every month and eventually I came to the conclusion that everyone had - he didn't really know what the truth was anymore. Sad tool.

mike734 07-14-2013 11:22 PM

Speaking of guys who talk about their qualifications, we have an FO who is a retired Navy Captain. Before a flight he walks through first class introducing himself to the passengers as Captain so and so. Tool.

The ones interested in background and experience are the ones jabbering on the PA.

LNL76 07-15-2013 07:42 AM

Announcing your flying hours/history may be tool-ish, BUT I'm willing to bet customers would rather hear that than, "I'm Captain xxxxx who's got 40 hours on this bird, am still on IOE which, btw is being conducted under the tutelage of Captain xxxxxxx, who's doing his first ever IOE.....

YES!!!!!!!! Pax could care less and any pilots on board just hope it stops sooner than later. Resumes are for people looking for work, not for those who have a job to read over the PA.

Aviatrx 07-15-2013 07:47 AM

All PA's are outlined in Flight Manual part 1. Thats what the boss wants, thats what the pax get.

That happened to me right next to Houston Hobby. Police officer said the hotel had a bar and recommended a beer there as opposed to getting mugged.

Although it's not a requirement, it is strongly suggested that all captains at Delta do that.

Yeah but he's taking about a first officer to do that on his own. Whole different bag of marbles there. A captain has a little more discretion for that type of thing and there's nothing toolish about that.
