FWIW, I "don't make fun of pilots behind their backs"---I'm not 12 years old. For those too obtuse to see it, I have tremendous respect and admiration for PROFESSIONAL pilots. (In fact, the BF is one.) The immature, cry-baby, embarrassment-to-the-profession ones----not so much. Too bad if that offends anyone. Although I suspect those who are offended by that statement are the same boys who ache to work with HAWT, young FAs. I believe the remark about the spiky haired, iPod donning, backpack wearing pilots was a crack at RJ pilots. From a FA. It took me years of training and lots of money to get where I am, versus your 6 week training course. Oh, and the 10 year background check you like to bring up. So if you want to make a generalization that I have spiky hair, listen to an iPod in the airport, and wear a backpack...I'll assume you're a cat herder. You're entitled to your opinion. And we're entitled to tell you how dumb we think it is. If you don't like what I have to say, please feel free to hit the ignore button. And don't forget to feed kitty breakfast;) |

I know lots of guys who went from zero hours to F16 pilot, or C5 copilot, or T38 Instructor, in about a year. Oh, and it didn't cost them a cent, in fact, they were paid quite well for their flying lessons. So...what's your point? Is it that it should take many, many years to become a pilot?? FNG here. I registered mainly for this epic thread. TY all who have contributed to help properly define toolishness in today's modern aviation. And to help recognize my own toolish tendencies.
I nominate all those who fly in Merida's airspace, and either don't know or simply cannot pronounce the controlling agency's name. Merida owns the Yucatan and the Southern Gulf of Mexico. And here's how it is pronounced. MARE-eh-dah. It's easy. Say it with me. It's not "Meridia". Not "Meedia". Definitely not "Meridian". MARE-eh-dah. And please don't say "Adios" to the controller. Mexicans don't say it to each other any more, if they ever did. It makes you sound like a fool. Do we say "To God" or "Go with God" to each other when we say goodbye? It's like saying "Fare thee well" or something. I feel better now... |
