Scenario - I'm in full uniform at an utterly empty gate, working on one of the computers, trying to pull up some pilot stuff on the printer. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a passenger peel off the main terminal hallway and make a beeline for me, because I can obviously help them with their seating, upgrade, or perhaps simply know via some sort of Zen Osmosis that "Yes, this is indeed the gate for Honolulu this afternoon."

Am I a tool for hating on this person? I believe I am, but I can't help it. I'm always polite, but I'm running out of stock, comic phrases like "They don't trust me with that part of the system" and at the blank stare, I have to add "I'm a pilot, not an agent. There will be an agent to help you about an hour prior to your departure, which is 3 hours from now."

We've all been there. Just don't stop and check anything in the terminal unless it's time critical for you. So much better to walk a few hundred yards to a crew room and see what you have to see there.

Passenger play book rule#32 -"Any crew member seen motionless in hall for 30 seconds or more, is fair game.
