What a sad and bizarre story. As usual, though, I think there are THREE sides to it....his side, her side and THE TRUTH.

Totally agree. She said all she could do for 2.5 hrs is sit there and worry.Doesn't Southwest have free wifi. She also admitted her husband has been very stressed out lately, but she still goes far away on a girls weekend.

She sat in her seat and cried for 2.5 hours. Ummm sorry, not to sound heartless, but that sounds strange. Even if the FAs were heartless and unsympathetic to her plight, NO ONE around her intervened? Methinks it's another case of "let's put an airline in a bad light and cash in on it."

First Officer or "emotional support puppy"?

supposedly has been "taught a few tricks." You have your doubts.

handles private areas in public way too often.

breath smells like meat of questionable freshness and quality.

you're sure would be more happy if had a playmate own age. Sadly no others on board.

you'd feel better if was restrained entire flight, not just taxi takeoff and landing

pax stare when boarding and ask if it is too young to fly? You assure them that will be locked in a secure cage for most of flight.

you regret having brought no toys for its in-flight amusement. Simply jiggling your keys doesn't seem to work.

wears fancy ID tag around neck, you verify it got its shots and passed a medical exam

reportedly the best in the litter. You really can't believe this was the top dog.

need to keep on very short leash for the safety of all

I vote for Doctor ... Or maybe lawyer! :D

Irrelevant. No, it doesn't, unless you are a gazillion-mile FF member. Besides which surfing the internet was not going to help in this situation.

So what? That doesn't mean she knew he was suicidal (see below).

Actually, no, it doesn't. In fact not at all, given the context. Truth is, you (and Tim, and DENpilot) are coming across as being pretty dang heartless, LNL. And, as usual for you, completely kneejerk defensive of FAs.

Fact is, everyone here knows FAs can be very cold, cruel, and heartless. Indeed, one could write a whole book on the topic, as we all know.

Be serious. You're kidding, right? In today's society?? Apparently you didn't hear about the Amtrak passengers stepping ON and over hurt people to get out of the derailed wreck without bothering to help them, just as an example.

Here's more on the story...

Right before takeoff, she received a text from her husband that read: “Karen, please forgive me for what I am about to do, I am going to kill myself…”

"I texted him ‘no, 'no,’ and he responded, 'yes, because I have to.'"

The text reached her just as flight crew were finishing cabin checks, but she said she knew the text was "serious" because her husband had never threatened suicide before.

Momsen-Evers waited until airborne to reach out to another flight attendant for help and asked if they could make an emergency call from the cockpit. "I showed her the texts. She said that...they could not disturb the pilot.

How so??

Later, Momsen-Evers called the airline through customer service to see if there was anything she could have done. She said she was told that FAA rules prevented cellphone use during flights. Her friend, who bought the tickets on with her own miles for Momsen-Evers, was later offered a refund. Momsen-Evers said she has not been in touch with the airline since then.

Great... almost snorted my coffee! :D

I have, knock on wood, flown with a bunch of top-notch FOs - although I know the other end of the spectrum is out there. That said, I think my dog (see avatar) is more intelligent than a good portion of those who ride in the back of the plane. Except when someone says, "Squirrel!"

CA or "old emotional support dog"

People are constantly putting a mirror under your nose while you nap to see if you're breathing.

Your top three favorite pastimes involve sleep.

Your spare tire is larger than your car's.

You are declined as an organ donor because you're told they're not sure if your organs are functional.

The fire department attends your birthday party in case the candles on your cake get out of hand.

Everyone is happy to give you a ride because they don't want you behind the wheel.

A passing funeral procession pauses to see if you need a lift.

You convince an attractive young lady to sleep with you but fail to convince your body parts to arise to the occasion.

Young girls feel safe in your presence knowing you couldn't possibly do anything.

The only females who pursue you are mosquitoes who need your blood to lay their eggs.

Negatory.....my dear. I don't always defend FAs, in fact have a look at Post #57 of "Alaska Airlines win JD Power Award." "EVERYONE knows FAs can be cold, cruel and heartless?" Have you taken a poll of EVERYONE or just your pilot buddies? I know most people DON'T feel that way. Maybe it's because MOST people know how to behave like rational adults and not push FAs over the line. Do you ride in the back at all and see what goes on? Honestly, I doubt I could ever work with regular pax again. Too many of them are smartasses and think buying a ticket entitles them to do whatever they damn well please, whenever they damn well please.

Are there bad FAs, sure...but there are bad pilots, doctors, lawyers, teachers, car mechanics, cashiers, etc., etc., etc.

As a matter of fact, I didn't hear/read about people stepping over victims on Amtrak. I heard people helped. Either way, NO ONE knows how they'll react in a horrific situation such as that. The survival instinct is very strong and may override the feeling of helping others. I don't know, and hope to never find out how I'd react.

I'm not sure what you don't understand about painting the airline in a bad light to get a big payoff. Pretty self-explanatory if you ask me.
