And then I didn't get on. There was one Jumpseat and I was holding the pass in my hand until she arrived at the gate to list herself.
Commuting sucks. Every commuter knows this. Getting that seat to get to work can be one of the most stressful parts of this job. I've given up my seat before to make sure someone else gets to work. Professional curtesy usually prevails in situations like this. I've had pilots give me their seat. I've had Skywest pilots give up their seats for me and I've done the same back for them. To have someone smile at me and say sorry I have a party to go to so good luck figuring out how else to get to work... Well that's on a different level.

So let me get this straight....
-There were no other seats except for the one jumpseat?
-There were two pilots for the Skywest jumpseat, you, and the other SkyWest pilot?
-You actually believe that your choice of residence should actually give you some sort of implicit priority for the SkyWest jumpseat over another SkyWest pilot?
Hopefully you can clear this up.

I think your understanding is wrong.
That being said, I have and will do to the same things mentioned by the both of you for the same reasons IF I have other options within reason. Missing my own preplanned activity may or may not be a reason on my own metal.
(FYI, I'm the guy handing the JS's my cellphone # in the gate area before departure in case the agents try to screw them)

My nomination today is a Skywest pilot today who bumped me from the JS as I was trying to commute to work. Now normally I understand these situations, people get bumped all the time and the plane was her own equipment. To be completely fair she had all the right for that seat. Thats was all fine and dandy until she saw me standing at the gate and asked me if I listed. I said yes, I'm trying to go to work. I'm in uniform, she's not and she's also dragging two rollaboards. She looks at me and says "sorry I have an engagement party to go to" and then cheerfully informs me of the other flights that day that really don't get me to my sign in time. I couldn't believe it, absolutely incredible. What comes around goes around.

So sad too bad... got an issue get a tissue. What's your excuse gonna be next time you're late for report because you don't get the jump seat because airline employees were in line before you. It's you're choice to live about of base and commute. Simple

I've been bumped a few times by someone not going to work or home. Yeah, it sucks. But there is no rule saying that the person going to work gets priority over the person going for pleasure. Sure it's very nice when someone offers to give up their seat, but it's not required.
