This is a truly sad, yet accurate portrayal of ehat I call the 1%ers. I have flown with FOs who are in this category. It goes both ways. Usually though the FO feels they are more qualified to be CA. Maybe, maybe not. Even if they were you would think that experience would dictate a desire to strive for teamwork.

Along that last line, how many times in history has metal been bent and flesh been roasted because a crew could not function as a crew? IMHO these 1%ers should be weeded out. I know I know, "but following the book is required and a safety device!" Yes to a point. Of the two 121s I have been at, the books have conflicting and contradictory info. Discretion. That is key. The 1%ers dont have it, and that is why they need not to be flying airplanes.

Dont get me wrong, I follow the book as much as practical. But I dont let my knowlege of the nitty gritty prevent me from seeing the whole picture. Sadly too many people fall for that trap. Good people too. But the 1%ers take it to new and dangerous hights.

Silence.
"Kennedy ground, JB 123."

"JB 123, Kennedy ground, go ahead."

"We're holding short of Bravo and were told to wait for your call."

Kennedy ground - "well I guess thanks for telling me that ..."

FO and I look at each other and start chuckling.

They guy behind me today on Gander Center who kept saying "Delta's Flight XYZ."

Could have been been worse. Could have check in as Delta Trip XYZ.

Man you guys talk about guard police. It's not as bad in Asia as it is in the NE USA but I heard a couple of Chinese pilots yelling at each other over Shanghai the other day. I guess a few folks decided to have a convo in mandarin so some guy in a thick Chinese accent yelled "SHUT UP!!!!!!!"

Maybe he was just trying to get folks to notice the sparkle of the gold inlay on his new front grille he got at a bargain rate on a stopover in one of those well-known Asian countries. :D

Guy briefing the flight attendants and myself how he is a laid back team player.

Guy in the cockpit telling me about his "values" and that we need to look out for each other.
