Default Ads-b kits?

I've seen some ads-b kits on eBay for $100
Has anyone had experience with these?

I wouldn't buy airplane parts on ebay unless I knew the seller was a reputable aviation vendor, and the parts had all the proper paperwork.

I think they're talking about this:
http://stratux.me/

Easy to build. Works well with whichever app you like.

If you are talking about ADS-B "IN" kits I would avoid ebay and go straight to amazon with one caveat - get a "case" from flightbox.

The stratux project is open source and is just a receiver for ADS-B messages that you can use with an Ipad and foreflight, WingX Pro etc.

www.Stratux.me

Commercially - flightbox www.openflightsolutions.com

I built my ADS-B receiver (dual freq) for a bit more than $100 and it works very very well.

I used the shopping list from stratux - got the parts from amazon and the case from openflight. Works flawlessly with WingX Pro (free for CFIs) and I can see ADS-B out equipped traffic on my iPad while sitting in my kitchen. I do not get ground station transmissions - usually need to be about 1000 AGL to get those.

If you are talking ADS-B "out" - just hand your avionics shop $5000 and come back in a week.

Search for Flight Aware ADS-B kit on Amazon and they have a nice parts list that'll set you back around $175 and runs on Raspberry Pi. The antenna is where you want to spend your money, don't skimp there.

These are portable (I think Stratus is as well). But yes of course I want to make sure it's all good, checking if anyone has experience with these so it'll help make a decision.

Do you have a good link for an antenna?

Also, the Stratux site you mentioned, would a flight box case work for that? A case sounds like a good idea, definitely want protect the device.

The antenna you select should match the application/installation, not knowing anything about your install I can't make a recommendation.

Here's an article that offers a few things to think about. If you just want to buy an antenna, the device being reviewed is decent quality for $50 on amazon.
