Talk to an instructor by the name of Orskey there at Eagle Flight. If you don't mind the move, you might be able to pick up some seasonal stuff up in Alaska, he would know more. Good luck, and don't rule out being a CFI...

Get a CFI job somewhere...anywhere...and hold on to it. Thats about as best you can do right now.
Compared to what they are used to getting its still not too bad. Figure the average banner tow, pipeline, traffic watch pilot had maybe 3-400 hours they are now getting resumes with 6-800 hours.

Where I have seen the slip is applying for the PC-12 jobs or the piston pressurized twins (414/421) or the van jobs. When before roughly 1200-1500 hours would put you in the "competitive" realm you now typically do not have a chance with under 3000 hours. I have a bit over 2000 hours and a decent amount of time in the cessna 414 and when I applied to a part 91 job flying one I lost out to a furloughed cargo guy who was a 75 captain for 10 years.

Pacific Wings or Georgia Skies (same holding company) both fly the C208 and I think they are both hireing. However have not heard great things about either.

To OP, I am also in your boat, I got about 270 TT, Comm/Inst SEL...NO ME yet, but they money is there for an ME....Dad sits left seat on the bus for UAL, and could be talked into paying for CFI, but I am trying to avoid that. I am graduating Rutgers in May, and I am willing to relocate ANYWHERE, I can get a job. I am hoping for the local skydive place, but we will see. Anyone know of anything in the NJ/NY/PA area please let me know, looking for bottom of the barrel starting job.

you guys should check out www.************ free to join and there are some decent low time jobs. Just saw a skydiving gig in MT where they pay for your lodging during the summer season. Worth a try!

Hey guys, I'm in that same rickety boat. Just about to graduate DWC with my 270TT, SEL/MEL Comm. Inst. and no CFI. I got a little bit of scratch to start my CFI at a FBO down the road, but I may run out of funds before I finish. I've tried looking at a couple jobs in the area like traffic watch and skydiving, even got a lead on repos and deliveries out west, but the way things are right now no one is hiring, so I think I'm stuck for the time being. On the other hand I joined up with the local CAP to do some search and rescue. The training takes a while but at least I get SOME kind of flying in.

WMU, thanks for that site, I haven't seen that one yet.
