Atlas Air Hiring
Took it exactly 1 month ago and nothing. Sent a follow up email and still nothing. Good luck, hopefully I'll be joining you in the interview room soon.
Congrats! But the whole 5 years to upgrade is only meaningful to guys in Talon's new hire class.
For some perspective, Talon is right about halfway up the entire seniority list. 51% of 1113 total pilots. Junior 767 captain (only 4 years to upgrade!) is at 57%. I've been here 3.75 years, right at 65% seniority and I'm 97 numbers junior to the most junior 767 captain. That's still a long way to go. The last guy on the list is 482 numbers away from the most junior 767 captain. How long do you think it'll take him to upgrade?
There has been enormous growth here in the last 5 years. Literally, half the airline has been hired since Talon started here.
Oh, and 767 captain pay will get you less than $110k/year at min guarantee (62 hours/month). something like $140k - $150k at 82 hrs/month, if my napkin math is correct.

No disrespect, but I'm not sure thats an absolute certainty... The timing to upgrade depends on a lot of factors. If we continue to add airplanes to the current fleets and/or ever get that rumored new fleet they've been talking about the last few years, the whole dynamic changes. Not to mention the attrition the last few years has eaten up a bunch of that "TON" that was hired the last 5 years. Mix in seat locks with people who bypas one upgrade or the other and figuring timing IMO gets a little murkier. It's possible the time to upgrade stays the same, decreases or if things head south it could increase. Who knows?
As you say - who knows? - especially if a new fleet ever arrives. But it's an indisputable fact we've hired half the airline in 5 years (@ 550 pilots) How many have we lost to attrition? Give me an official number, not rumors.
In the bid 2? months ago I was 150 #s from 747 capt. At 30 pilots retiring per year, I figured 5 more years to upgrade, maybe a bit less.
Now I'm 60 #s from upgrade. I was pretty surprised to find that I moved up 90 numbers in 2 months...what I thought would take 3 years...
10 more 747 capt bids out very soon is what we just heard...

Passed the written exam and don't have much else to add in regards to gouge. Its pretty accurate and the method that worked best for me was using my trusty old school Gleim ATP question book. For reference i used ACE The Tech Pilot Interview (Barstow) and JAA professional Pilot Studies (Croucher) for altimetry/aerodynamics, and internal docs at my company in regards to performance, NAT tracks, etc.
Thanks to everyone who posted useful info and keep up the good work!
