Regarding the flow thru, DAL management is not very fond of this program.
First, the program is difficult to plan for because Compass and Mesaba can hold line pilots for 90 days, management and linecheck pilots for up to 9 months. When Delta hires, they hire to have out on the line as soon as possible.
Second, DAL does not interview these folks and thus has no say in the quality of the product. (I'm not slamming the pilots of Compass or Mesaba, no disrespect meant, just stating the reality of the program). Management has acknowledged that some of those pilots do not have a college degree and thus will end up working for DAL. They're not happy about this. However, future pilots hired by Compass and Mesaba will be required to have degrees.

For Mesaba they have to have a college degree for them to flowup. It's in the flowthru language so people without a college degree have to wait until they get one to flowup. Mesaba already said they will release approx 36 in 2010 for flowthru. That's 9 per month for 4 months as December is reserved for bypass and people held back.

There's an easy solution for DALPA to present to the company, at least for resolving the CPS flow: bring the E175s to mainline. Otherwise, the company should be told to pound sand if they're looking to get out of the flow, as it proved to be a very effective furlough preventer the last few years.
I think DAL should renegotiate the flow through so that they have a representative on the hiring boards.
What happens if a pilot decides to leave Compass/Mesaba, but then "runs into" trouble during training? Can that pilot go back to Compass/Mesaba without giving up seniority?
The 50 seaters are toast. However, as stated by management, the 100 seater is the MD-90. They are so cheap and their efficiency is on par with other aircraft (if not better). The bonus is that they can carry more than 100 passengers if needed. This means, they don't have to spend 20-30 million on a new aircraft.

That isn't going to happen and they've said so publically. What they don't like is not controlling the product or having a say in who gets hired.

I don't have any doubt either. You guys aren't getting what I am saying.
You are reading this with the "regional versus mainline" goggles on.
If the company wanted you to not pass a checkride, they can find ways.
Another question, do these flow through pilots have the typical probationary period as other new hires once at mainline? Or are they full up DAL pilots with full voting rights and protections?

I am not going to get into a long debate with you over the quality of the training department at Mesaba. It's a generally acknowledged fact in the industry. We have dedicated instructors with many years of experience in the Part 121 world and we have a well established training department with its curriculum second to none. I don't know which regional you are referring to but if you are referring to SkyWest or Pinnacle I have no facts to disprove or agree with you one way or the other.
