The Denver base is opening tomorrow or next week or next month or next year or maybe never? Hope that helps.

Well, Denver is the 5th busiest city in the SWA network (144 departures/day) and the only one in the top 8 that isn't a crew base, so...

BTW- MDW is the largest base with 1000+ pilots. Surprised me.

Latest update on SWA

188 for the first quarter. 24-24 20x7, 3 classes per month. Evaluate after first quarter if we need more. Next year 400, retirements start in 2012 and with growth will continue in the 400+ range for awhile unless something falls apart, this is always a possibility. Denver was going to happen in 2011 but with Airtran that is on hold as they are trying to eat a very large elephant. They seem very upbeat down in Mecca which I have not heard for awhile but can't see how they are going to get there hands on enough frames for all they want to do and retire the classics when they want to. For the interviews they are taking internals (sim instructors with at least 3 years with the company) before going outside. Seams they might need a couple but that is it to round out the 188. Would assume interviews would start this summer to build the pool up for next year. As far as the 1000 hrs PIC, that is a hard number. Some have gotten hired without a college degree of any kind but the competition is going to be pretty tough with how long it has been since the industry has hired.

Hope this helps

thanx for the update. Heard pool will be a thing of past. Legal issues of poolies that recently got called and got turned down. Rumor, i dunno. Take care and thanx again

Any time frame on this? I'd imagine it would be in a few months, at the latest. But what do I know... nothin'!

May I ask what "press" you are refering to? As much as I hope this is true. I have not seen or heard of any hiring to be done. Again, I wish this to be so, just would like to have some idea of your source.
