Hawaiian Airlines Hiring
#922
For what it's worth, the guys I know that even got the first nod from HAL had to network EXTENSIVELY. They didn't get an interview just because they lived in Hawaii. They got an interview because they're genuinely good dudes, with impeccable records. They got invited out for the FIRST interview. So yeah, just move on out and you're good to go I'm sure. With that attitude, invite yourself over to my house and I'll introduce you to my sister.

Hey guys. I was told that if you live in HI, you are pretty much guaranteed an interview? What about the peeps who live Stateside: do they stand a chance? Do you think with all the forthcoming legacy hiring it might be easier to walk into the niche carriers like Hawaiian? If you could choose between Hawaiian, JetBlue, spirit or Allegiant, which would you choose? They seem fairly consistent as a career with Hawaiian being somewhat of an outlier because of the location factor. I always thought it might be kinda fun to live in HI. I'm just trying to decide on where to aim my sights. Thanks.
I think you should go Allegiant. For sure. That is the company for you.

I didn't know a soul. I had no internal recommendations. I was contacted three times for an interview. Each time I had to turn the invite down because of family issues (2 deaths, one month apart, and my wife had just started a new position at the University).
It was horrible timing and gut wrenching to have to say "no" three times to the invite, but my wife and family had to come first. I hope that someday I can get my foot back in the door.
FYI, I live on the mainland and have no ties to the islands other than the fact that I REALLY want to live there, I love to spend my time there, and I have a good friend that retired to the big island and has a fabulous house that I have free run of the downstairs mother-in-law quarters.

Please clarify. Do you mean that those of us that have applied, received the email about being kept for further consideration and have been updating our stuff will be cleaned out of the system?

Yep, thats how they do it. This is my second time in the dance, and they "flush" the applicant pool just prior to re-opening a new requisition. Then, wash-rinse-repeat. Re-apply, make your hotel reservations, and re-interview. This IS my dreamjob, heres to the 3rd time being the charm!!!

What kind of time are they looking for? I'm years away from having competitive times but wondering what my next step should be to be more competitive for HAL. Would TPIC in a prop, or regional jet time be better? Do they like to see international and over water experience?

Whoa brah! I'm just getting into this whole airline stuff. I sorry, I see now on the airline profiles that they are legacy. sorry mah. Look, I just got hired at Expressjet about a yr ago and I'm trying figure out a game plan. I never intended to stay here and now a lot of the Cappy's are leaving and I figure it should be a few years with the current rate of hiring and retiring. I didn't mean to lump you guys in with Allegiant and Jetblue. That just happens to be where a lot of the guys are going to. Anyway it sounds like a fun place to work and you guys are very proud of it. Peace yo.
