Default Future AK Service?

Just wondering if anyone had heard about future service to some of the villages or Kenai Peninsula with the demise of
Ravn Air?

Thank you

I haven't heard anything, rumor or otherwise. Horizon had a base in ANC for a couple years that petered out pretty quickly - they found that the Q400 isn't actually a great plane to operate up there in the manner that they wanted. I think it lasted three years from opening to closing, and the last two years were only ANC-FAI with a single flight to SCC each week. Too much cargo/checked bags, not enough people to balance out the loads. From what I've seen going from ANC-ENA or the reverse over the past couple years the loads were really light at about ~15 bodies on the flights that I took, but that may have simply been because I was choosing flights that fit my connection times and usually ended up being early morning or late night.

Thank you, the Dash 8’s were pretty full during the summer to ENA with pax and cargo. Looks like the only option this year will be Grant’s Caravan.

Stay safe

The ANC op failed because ALPA was able to prevent a maintenance base from opening up there. Every time a dash broke down, parts and mechanics would need to be ferried up from Seattle. It was doomed to fail before it even started because the Q doesn't like the cold. It also doesn't like the heat.

I hadn’t heard this before. So Alaska Airlines pilot union has something in the contract related to maintenance bases? Seems like scope protection of some kind. Do you know exactly how it’s written?

There is no scope protection of any kind in the Alaska Airlines pilot contract.

There is no scope protection, however AS pilots, mechanics, and ALPA in general will occasionally remind the company they will burn the place to the ground if they proceed on certain items...management decided it wasn't worth the disruption in Alaska (pilots and mx up there are a different breed) and did not go through with the mx base.

Because there was a vision of the Q400 doing not only ANC-FAI, but all of SE Alaska + the milk runs. They don't want to lose their jobs.

That is rich.....Not even in the ballpark but rich....We have absolutely no voice in what decisions Alaska Airlines makes relating to contracted flying....Of course people spout off and tell tall tales but swaying executive leadership in how they manage their contracted flying or who they choose to hire to do their contracted flying....Not a chance....When it is not your paint job or name on the side of your airplane you kinda go and do what the airline says.....
