Default Horizon Hiring

Just got this email from Horizon. Wondering if anyone has a real timeline of when they are planning on hiring?

Hello Jon Rivera

Thank you for submitting your recent on-line application for a First Officer position with Horizon Air. We truly appreciate your interest in Horizon.

Regretfully, however, we have had to postpone our new hire class until later this year. Hence, interviews have had to be postponed and the posting cancelled as well.

We are planning to have a class later this spring. If you are available we would ask that you re-apply when the position is re-posted.

Thank you for your patience and continued interest in a career with Horizon Air.

Mine read as follows, maybe some others got this as well.

Hello John

Thank you for submitting your recent on-line application for a First Officer position with Horizon Air. We truly appreciate your interest in Horizon.

We reviewed a high volume of qualified applications. We were impressed with your resume and would be interested in learning more about you! Regretfully, however, we have had to postpone our new hire class until later this year. Hence, interviews have had to be postponed and the posting cancelled as well.

Been there, done that, got the shirt

That's how a "Dear John" letter usually starts. They tell you how impressed they are with your resume and qualifications, but unfortunately blah blah blah

Speaking from the Alaska side, there's something up with hiring at AAG. We've cut way back on predicted hiring, started paying overtime more often, are buying back vacation in February, and generally seem to be keeping our powder dry.

I don't know what's up but it feels weird. Just 6 months ago we were all, "we are going to hire 12/mo forever!" Now, not so much. Now you say Horizon is backing off. Something is up.

Three rumors I've heard lately that may be related:

1. The flight attendants were offered a big raise to eliminate the 10.5 hour duty day they currently enjoy in their contract.
2. The pilots will have a new uniform soon.
3. The whole airline might be rebranded.

None of the above are substantiated by anything other than just rumor, but interesting none the less. Could a merger or buyout be coming?

Not sure why the class cancelled/pushed back...we're running incredibly tight on crews right now and it's near impossible to drop trips.

From what we hear on the QX side, we'll be get new uniforms as well...wouldn't surprise me in the least to see AS/QX have the same uniforms (you know, to "save cost").

Atleast then, when you board a Q400 in ANC headed somewhere in Alaska...you won't realise you're not on a 737...

I was told recently by one of our base CP's that new hire classes were pushed back due to a lack of available sim time. Apparently, Republic bought all the extra sim time and QX wouldn't have enough availability for new hire training. For those of you interested, please keep applying. I would love to trade bases, or, just be able to drop a trip!
