SkyWest gave AAG a quote, which was about 20% lower than Horizon cost. AAG determined that at those rates the airplanes would be profitable. The last five QX CRJ's were then assigned to OO on a five year contract, the duration of AAG's leases. AAG was very pleased with OO's performance and the contract was extended, and expanded. The two aircraft that had gone to S. Africa were brought back to be flown by OO. We also purchase an additional aircraft from Lufthansa to fly for Alaska.

OO did not under bid QX to win the flying. QX could not operate them profitably, they were leaving QX, period. QX was not going to continue to fly those aircraft under any circumstances. End of story.
So that was a long winded way of saying I was right? SkyWest is flying almost all if not all of Horizon's former CRJ's???

You said Horizon was losing the CRJ's long before SkyWest came into the picture? My point is SkyWest was always in the picture, based on the fact that they have all of Horizon's RJ's. Whether they are leased or painted in United Express colors, Alaska colors it doesn't change the fact that all or most of Horizons former CRJ's are now being flown by SkyWest Inc. You make it sound as if SkyWest just came in at the end and got the contract. That just isn't the case.

Now is it the SkyWest pilots fault no, that lies with Airgroup management and board. Don't try to play it off as SkyWest is somehow innocent in the games of whipsaw. SkyWest management wanted the Alaska contract, so they played along and started taking the CRJ off the hands of QX in the hopes that they would eventually get the Alaska contract and guess what it worked!

Didn't this CRJ thing all happen like 8 years ago? Get over it. How about posting something relevant that might help folks make a decision on whether or not Horizon maybe a place for them now.

You want something relevant to QX today...well, if you like being junior manned/assigned to work every-single day of reserve, have min rest after you've been rescheduled for the 11th time that day, fly 6 legs the next day...in bad weather, with a plane that might or might not work...for less pay, and a contract circumventing "bonus"...and for a company that has turned openly hostile...then we've got a seat just for you.

I still love this airline, I've put my blood and sweat into it...but it's no where close to the same airline that I started with (or even the airline I worked for 3-4 years ago).

The people make Horizon...you will not find a more skilled pilot group.

Ok, here's some relevant info. If you have managed to read all 135 pages of this thread and you are still undecided about Horizon, I'm worried about your reading comprehension. I think the common thread in any Horizon discussion is............

Don't come to Horizon if you have career ambitions beyond QX.

If your ambition is to work for Alaska. Go to any other regional, get your time, apply to Alaska. Working for Horizon will delay or derail your path to Alaska.

On that same theme, if you want to move on to any of the other legacies, Horizon will more than likely delay or derail those dreams too.

The only people who should apply at Horizon are the very few who have a spouse with a great job, live in the PNW and want a hobby job. Period.

Horizon is where flying careers go to die.

This is in no way a knock on the crews who work their collective asses off to give the Airgroup their massive profit margins. Some of the best people you will ever meet or work with.

There! That is some constructive advice!

Alaska represents about 3% of OO's flying, not a big deal and they are a high maintainence customer. Alaska approached SkyWest, not the other way around. Horizon was no longer going to operate those airplanes. PERIOD! AAG was seeking placement for airplanes they were on the hook for and OO had work for them. That OO ended up with a contract was incidental. AAG needed to place airplanes and the contract with OO was a way for them to get them off of the books. Whipsaw? Pfft, with our work rules we make more than you.

You make it sound as if SkyWest just came in at the end and got the contract.
That is the case.

The working at Alaska bit is accurate, I think the rest is a bit dramatic. While I don't believe Qx is a place where careers go to die, you can certainly start your career off better going somewhere that will offer you the bonuses/benefits that Alaska/horizon management won't.

The FOs who get on the jet though will have a pretty good experience at the expense of the rest of us...at least until they upgrade on the Q400 and have to remember what hand flying a plane is like

Wasn't this you? Snacky?

We probably won't survive long enough to implement it. The place is imploding. Management is violating our contract left and right, we've already threatened a status quo strike, FOs are bailing in droves. All the E175s are probably going to skywest, except for 1 so they can activate our concessionary contract starting May 1st.

I foresee you guys having to pick up a lot more Horizon routes to cover your own feed in the short future.
I'm not the only one prone to bits of drama......

Would you quit being a constant contrarian! Good lord, you just have to disagree with everything everyone says. Knock it off!
