I live in Atlanta and from looking at JetBlue's website there are 3 direct flights a day so it appears commuting from Atlanta is doable. Just wondering how long reserve time there is and if most of the trips are like redeyes for new hires? Also do they typically use pilots on reserve pretty fast or do you sit around a lot in JFK?

I don’t think I’m going to stay in Atlanta for the long term so why I’m looking at other airlines like JetBlue

ATL commute is almost impossible. You don’t want to do it. It’s the worst in the system. Trust me, I wouldn’t steer you in the wrong direction. If you’re going to commute to JB please do yourself a favor and don’t do it from ATL.

All kidding aside, we currently have three to JFK a day. They just announced 4 times a day to LGA in spring. Not sure if that will reduce the JFK flights or is in addition to them.

Ok thank you. What about when you actually get to JFK being on reserve? Are you sitting around twiddling your thumbs for a few days or do they utilize you pretty quickly?

Depends, is it a nice summer weekend or a random Tuesday in October? You’ll average something between 30 and 75 hour a month most months. You can bud for trips and hope they get assigned to you or you can figure out how to enjoy NY. Some have seen everything to see on Netflix and I’ve personally seen the Internet tell me that I’ve looked it all up and there is nothing more for me on there.

There is usually a supplemental bid as well, so 2 per year.

At least one per year. Just like Delta. And if I'm not mistaken there are other majors out there who don't have a contractual requirement to have even one vacancy bid per year. "Yikes"

DL has a bid roughly every 2-3 months.
