I agree that the PTO/vacation system was messed up but I don't think anyone should be taking a pay cut (or staying around the same pay) with a new contract. That seems like one of the foundations of your first contract; everyone gets a pay raise. Pilots did what they had to do with their schedules and PTO for their wallets. Nobody's wallet should be getting lighter (or staying the same) with a new contract.

I appreciate what you are saying but PTOSB was NEVER designed to bolster your income.
Some people choose to work less and PTO days. Some people choose to work more and not PTO days and sell those PTO hours at premium. It's still more work for more pay, currently. |

I also hear about people selling PTO all the time. I didn't realize that I'm in the minority... In the surveys, I said I didn't care about keeping PTO sellback. However, it wasn't in the realm of my imagination that I would take a pay cut because of losing it.

Obviously that didn't happen. |

I think the assumption was that losing PTO sell back wouldn't hurt because it would be accompanied by a market rate contract.
Obviously that didn't happen. Exactly. I expected PTOSB to disappear. I sold back 10 hrs every month. Was a huge amount of $ for zero work. I was willing to give it up for overall gains in other areas. I actually expected zero increase in my W2 with this deal because of the loss of income from PTOSB. But I expected significant QOL increases and flexibility within the contract. What I ended up was a pay cut and 2-3 more days at work each month. F That. |

F That. I'm curious in what way you will also be working more? |

F That. What opportunities this TA would provide for you? How would the staffing drivers affect your position? |

You're a Senior FO. After all the numbers, if I were you I'd be a NO vote too under the current circumstances, in your current position.
What opportunities this TA would provide for you? How would the staffing drivers affect your position? Like I said earlier, I expected to have any real monetary increase with this TA. I figured the PTOSB was going away, but would be replaced by the increase in base pay. Basically a wash. What I expected was that I'd actually bid vacation instead of just bidding around the weeks I wanted, I hoped our pay would be in the middle of the legacies and SWA/AK, I expected our contract would keep pace with everyone else (3% COLA), I expected our PS would be separated completely from retirement (Get rid of the cliff). And I certainly didn't think they'd give away 75% of the OE trips. None of that happened. Not one single potential gain/offset that would give me anything to hang my hat on as a senior-ish guy to convince me to vote yes for this thing. I'm happy for the gains for the less senior guys. I really am. I just can't in good conscience look at this thing in its totality and vote yes. I just can't. |
