Honest question: when you are buying a rug in a North African bizarre do you exclaim that the vendor is a crook and walk away from the first offer? Or do you bring a team of attorneys, SMEs, and negotiators? This question is very germane to the TA vote

Not you, MOderator. Joined this week, just 7 posts, and talks like he’s an expert in negotiations.

It might be Timmy Martins.

In the souks or medinas you NEVER take the first offer, and if he continues to insist on that offer with no meaningful movement to what you are looking for (unless you exude the ignorant American tourist look) YES that’s exactly what you do, you start walking away! Walking away shaking you head and looking equal amounts of mildly annoyed and disappointed saying “halas” is in fact an essential part of the process. At that point the vender runs after you saying “my friend, my friend, come, come we talk more, better price for you we come to....inshallah, yalla yalla habibi”. If you bring a team of negotiators and attorneys with you he will close up shop and won’t speak to you.

Honest Answer, and I agree very germane to the current TA.

Well since you joined in Sep 2014 and have over 1,000 posts, I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t mean you.

And if you did take the first offer, he would be somewhat insulted by it.

Which is to say that the two types negotiations couldn’t be any more different in how they are executed.

You were the one that tried to relate the two.... now you are saying they are opposites.... Ha can’t make this up! U crack me up.

Bottom line, many on here are uncomfortable with the language and unsatisfied with the defined carrot... that’s when you hold out and wait for the other side to move closer to satisfy your concerns.... no different in any negotiation.

Some might define that as negotiating 101

I thought the self evident nature coupled with sarcasm would be obvious
