Commute from Memphis
#11
Flew with a CA years ago that commuted from MEM. There are multiple flights a day MEM-FK. She said the ride on FedEx was reliable, but the big PITA was getting from the JFK cargo hub over to the terminal. Sitting reserve you'd just need a cab/Uber to the crash pad unless you already had a trip. American & Delta can also get you to LGA. If we end up buying Spirit, MEM would probably be added to JetBlue's route map.

You should rethink your line of work if you’re truly miserable living in base. Can it be frustrating? Yes of course. But miserable? Come on now. And not for nothing, but we make the most money when this place is falling apart. It’s all relative homie.

This. FedEx is an easy commute if you can deal with the hours. In JFK, there’s a free bus that runs on a loop between FEDEX and Federal Circle, where you can catch the Airtrain to the terminal.

How commutable is reserve? Minimum days off on reserve? What are the the “on call” hours for short call?
What about the lines. How commutable are junior lines? Minimum days off when holding a line? If it’s more then I’m getting now at a regional but not 100% commutable it might be the same QOL for me till I can move.

Fair enough. It has been a pretty miserable few months for me, though. Even as an in-base lineholder, I’m on revision F every week. Is the extra money helpful? Sure. Personally I’d rather just have a reliable schedule, though.

I mean, we’ve seen both Delta and American pilots picket recently over fatiguing schedules and reassignments (mostly AA). You’d run on-time more there so it would be more reliable, but not sure it would be sunshine and rainbows either. Moving to one of their bases would help obviously.

I want B6 to be a destination, but with the way things are right now and the legacies hiring in droves, can one really make a good argument for staying? But yes, misery is relative, so don’t take my misery as actual fact. It’s just BS airline pilot misery.
