I never pointed a finger at JetBlue. If you read my first line, it was simply to give a comparison. For what it is worth, if JetBlue charged $9 /month for the blue plan I would have thought that was reasonable for major medical.
On a side not JetBlue could have used the five core values to navigate the road of healthcare. They could have phased in blue/green/orange plans. They could have forewarned that obomacare was going to force changes to what they could offer and let employees know the changes were forth coming. Instead they went for the jugular, in my opinion.
I do not care to get into a debate about why it changed, I just wanted to provide apples to apples comparison. I want people to realize that we spilt 80/20 with ual on healthcare cost, and it $9 a month. What is the spilt then for b6? Obomacare or not.....the decision was made to get all they could while they could.

The healthcare issue is a BIG deal. Military retires love jb because they have full free health care, and reserve/guard military gets it from the govt at a rate of around $50/mo individual and $180/family. Future JBALPA take note, this will be your gold standard for contract negotiations for Jetblues first real CBA. I'm excited for you guys to finally get what you deserve

Jetblue premiums and deductibles are at Jetblue's discretion. Jetblue chose to gouge employees with a $2900 premium. Jetblue decided against allowing pilots to purchase "gap" insurance to cover the exorbitant premium because Jetblue claimed the $30 per month gap insurance would encourage greater use of the green plan therefore costing Jetblue more money.
This is something all new hires and those applying need to understand. The culture you believe exists at the airline does so provided it doesn't cost money. Jetblue is a business just like any other airline. Unions make airlines career destinations not management teams.

I'm not sure. The latest plan was 400 total for 2014. 200 of those would be for growth and 200 because of attrition. We received an email last week saying the attrition number for 2014 has been lowered to 100, so I would assume 300 total pilots for the year, and we have already hired about 150-200.

Individual: $273.84 per year
Family: $547.68 per year
Tricare Standard. You get to see what ever Doctor you want, but the costs are more. It depends on the situation.
