I spoke to Jeff Martin at the end of last year and he said their hiring numbers for 2015, 300-350, were based on an attrition of 150-175 and a need to staff the additional airframes, 175. He said attrition was way under what they had predicted - under 80 for all of 2015.
Originally they had planned the same hiring for 2016. There is a union or company email floating around stating that they went down to 175. My guess is that number will need to go back up if this much higher attrition continues. I would also say that it will continue as the legacies continue to open the floodgates, and jetBlue continues to stall a new contract.

I read all ALPA and company information and emails and ths has never been mentioned at all. In fact the opposite. I go to most Union meetings and again never been mentioned. Do you go to the meetings? When did they say this? It sounds a bit fictitious without facts.....was there a jackolope there as well?! Lol

The last few years they expected to lose around 120/yr. we only lost about 75/yr. departures have picked up a bit the first quarter this year losing about 40 sinse the new year. As of about a week ago hiring was expected to be around 175 for the year revisable if needed.
... They'll end up playing catch up when we're running hot this summer.

Unhappy new-hires? I didn't notice anyone unhappy when I was there. People know what they're getting into before getting to class. It's not a big surprise.
Yes, the pay can be better. Personally, I'd rather stay at a hotel, but staying at the Lodge hardly made me or others unhappy.

I stand by my comments that the pay is pathetic. The company will say that they can't raise the pay because of paragraph 3A in some pilot's PEA's. The fact is they got around 3A by offering a retention bonus after 1 year of $6,000. Then, the company took the bonus away (1/1/15) and cut the pay to $2,000/mo. Again, the company spin will say that newbies actually get more due to the $26/day to spend in the cafeteria. Not everybody wants to eat cafeteria food for 6 weeks, however.
