Are they able to achieve this flying without pulling 190s from the desert? Could be a play at keeping the 190 roster current and to avoid having an entire fleet from having to go to the training house. That would be a lot of training events as I imagine most are past the 90 and are on the 120-day extension.

At an hour a piece the sims aren’t full. Training is at a standstill.

3/4 of the crew costs are covered by CARES Act grants right now, so swapping into a 190 will have a minimal marginal cost associated with it since. I'm guessing timing with maintenence procedures is a larger contributor to variable cost through September, hence the downgauging to the 190 when possible.

190 instructors weren't abundantly available when we were hiring, so retraining a whole fleet might not be entirely feasible. Also if they have to pull people in during off days, it adds up. Just a thought but may be completely wrong.

Assigning a reserve a trip down to MCO to go to JBU for landings costs nothing. The room at JBU costs nothing (loads of empty rooms), The sim costs nothing, the deadhead costs nothing (tons of empty seats). Only cost is your per diem which is being spent on food and beer at JBU.

If the flying can be achieved with not pulling anymore 190s, wouldn't it be easier than having to actually schedule all those events and hope for no hiccups? If they had to pull planes out of the desert just to store them again, I don't think this makes sense. However, I haven't seen any 190 trips out of MZJ yet.
So I think it's easier just to assign LCRs flying than having to schedule a whole fleet for a sim event (even if the cost is nothing to do so)

I think you’re right. Worst case you have some 190 pilots dequal and now needing RQ1. Now rather than sitting at home doing nothing on LCR/SCR they’re doing nothing waiting for a couple legs of OE. A pain in the butt for the pilots, but that doesn’t mean anything to the company.
