I don't think it's that bad though. Would they have kept him on in an advisory role for a year had it been toxic? RM was shown the door and was never heard from again right? Gone, goodbye, see ya later...Not let's talk for the next year.
I tend to agree there was probably some fundamental differences between him and Hayes as the most logical explanation. Who else really has more pull than he does?
The word has always been re wide bodies that it has to pass Powers' desk and he pushes against the idea. Doubt it was just that. There are a whole host of parts moving and if he's not on board it's best that he leaves.
Re Frontier.....Whatever they were 10 years ago, it's a totally different animal right now. ULCC world. Just because it would make for an easier commute for some, I don't think that's sufficient reason to desire a merger with them.

I know. I was joking, mostly. I do see a merger as more likely than JB expanding into the heart of the country organically. MSP has been the rumor since when I interviewed. I was actually told that we'd be there before I got on property, some two years ago. There is so much untapped potential in STL, MCI, OMA, DSM, OKC, ICT and even ORD/MDW.

The one year pay with the fake role is an agreement to waive his right to litigate his dismissal.
He was fired.
Remember in 2007.
"David Neeleman, JetBlue’s founder and CEO since 1998, will continue to serve as non-executive Chairman of the Board. "
D1 was fired.
I think Powers usefulness has run it course. His skill set was limited to driving margin performance by using the employees to fund the airline. We don't have much left to give back or as Mark said in a conference call "we have a few levers we can pull levers'. Now that we don't have many levers left to pull he is he is gone.
We need to drive or keep margins high with growth and risk and that is not his strong suit.

For what it's worth, a few weeks ago I was commuting home from JFK, sitting next to me was a guy who had just finished IOE and had Robin on the JS during his check ride. According to Robin (according to this guy) Frontier is a no go, isn't happening, no way. So expect the merger announcement within n 6 months.
