You know, I have to apologize for my post there. I realize in retrospect that I overreacted. I mean noone could/would be that stupid…to withhold a jumpseat like that. Look, I don’t give a rat’s a$$ about JB or VA, or your precious little union. You can discriminate against them all you want. Protest them, boycott them…whatever. But when you discriminate against a pilot, you’re not hurting the company. You’re hurting the poor slob trying to get home to his family or trying to put bread on the table. You’re hurting a buddy of mine, who put 20 yrs in so you could cry and whine like a little girl in Sunday school. A guy who spent more than four years of his life at sea and missed years of his children’s life. But when he gets out the only people hiring are JB and YOU are going to punish him for that. When I was in the police dept. oh so long ago, you could go to any city, any state, and any other officer would have your back. They might not like your unit, your state, your union, or even YOU, but they are there for you….it’s called professional courtesy. I might not like the fact that the AF gets more money than us, air-conditioned tents, made to order meals, and 90 day rotation cycles in Kuwait, instead of sitting 6-9 months in a sardine can at125F in the Gulf, but I got their back any time, anywhere(except for the O’club if we’re hitting on the same bartender) Professional courtesy...think about it.
But I digress, as I said earlier, anybody withholding a jumpseat for those reasons would have to be a moron. I mean, I can only imagine a buddy of mine calling me up and telling me how some dude almost got him fired because he wouldn’t let him ride the seat. Then I’d email, call or talk to more than 150 friends I have at every airline minus Mexicana and AirItalia and tell them about Joe Bag O’donuts. They’d call, email, or talk to all their friends, and so on, and so on. Until one of two things happen: either Joe Bag O’donuts, get’s the message and comes on here begging for forgiveness(which of course we give, since we’re all that kind of person)because he can’t get a jumpseat anywhere, or I’m sitting at home watching Foxnews with a beer in my hand watching a story about some pilot that got thrown off the Ferry in SF heading to Alcatraz. Name: Joe Bag O’donuts. Moral to the story…..you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. Be careful, you never know who you’re going to **** off.
BTW….anyone ever need anything, let me know. Peace out….I think I’ll head back to the membership site where honor and professional courtesy remain the words of the day. Keep the faith brothers.

Listen up, Sonny boy. First off, we're all impressed with your military credentials. Of course, most of us were in the Gulf of Tonkin, the Med or the I.O. doing 11 month cruises while you were in diapers. So, don't come in here thinking your some big military "hero". You've just had your turn in the barrel doing the job we did before you could wipe your own butt.
As far as "professional courtesy" goes, you don't have clue about Unions OR the commercial aviation industry. We're trying to uphold the standards that generations of Airline pilots before us walked the line to get for us.
To consider some pi$$ant who'll work for substandard wages and zero benefits a "fellow professional" is ludicrous at best. Every time a pilot signs on with a non-Union carrier that undercuts Union contracts, he PROVES to airline managers that pilots will prostitute themselves for a type rating and some quick PIC time. The guys who cross picket lines to do it are called SCABS. You may have heard the term.
At any rate, thank you for your military service. Most of us in the left seat have served, too. And having walked MILES in your shoes, let me assure you: You're way off base on this topic.
As President Lincoln said: "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."
In your case, SonnyBoy, silence is golden.

As far as 'non-union', what does that have to do with anything? And whoever said JetBlue Captains make 'sub-standard' wages? The Airbus Captains I talk to make very good coin.
Instead of berating B6 pilots for being non-union or refusing jumpseats, a real unprofessional response, why don't you try giving them your ALPA business card and encouraging them to join? I'll bet B6 will be a breeding ground for a union eventually, and you could start a grass-roots campaign with any B6 pilot who rides on your flight. That would work better than your 'zero-tolerance' approach.

Support them? When they actively seek to tear down everything ALPA has worked 60 years for?
And its not just pay and retirement that B6 pilots seek to subvert. 29 of them willingly participated in an unauthorized study in an attempt to get a waiver from the 8 hour rule so THEY could fly transcon turns.
And they did it on passenger flights with revenue passengers onboard.
All 29 of them should have had their licenses revoked for intentional non-compliance with FAA regulations. B6 should have been heavily fined.
And some of you here think they should be offered jumpseat privileges because they are fellow aviation professionals.

THE FAA APPROVED IT !!!
Maybe those 29 pilots with their guinee pig pax had to do a transcon turn because they could not get a jumpseat home from the leftcoast on Alaska?
