I understand the complaints. Things need to change. We're way behind in almost every way compared to the big 4. But just to add a little perspective for the prospective, I've been here 3.5 years have 1000 guys under me, sit 50% in base in seat, and have grossed over $130k year to date. Not an awful living. Granted if I were at United or Delta that number would be larger. But we're working on that.

130K is over twice the median income in the US. Yep, I get it: responsible for people's lives. So is the guy that welded the hull together on the cruise ship. Well trained? Highly educated? So are physicians assistants that make 70-100K and work 40-50 hrs a week. Perspective.

Me too. I'm conflicted. The jury is still out for me. Do I dislike it here? No. Could it be better? Sure. To what degree, who knows. But it could also be better elsewhere. Unless you're running your own company, it's still going to work and there's no perfect company. Personally I don't want to be number 12,000 on a seniority list. I've been burned on career moves and I'm very cautious. I sense a repeal of the 1500 hr ATP, age 67, and an economic downturn. I guess it's gambling. Roll the dice and try for a legacy for more pay or relish the two year buffer I have here. I know too much about statistics, psychology, and human nature for my own good. I consider risk over reward. Again, just me.

I agree with the original posts point. Let's make this place great. Let's not cave into a crap CBA. Let's not be treated less than we are worth.
Lets be fair the applicants that have JB as their #1 as I did, because they may live in a domicile and don't want to fly 5 legs a day in an md88 or 737.
Grass isn't always greener.
I'll take the free uniform over having to pay close to $1000 for a descent one.
I'll cross seat belts when I nonrev because I'll more than likely not be #46 on the standby list for a flight that's oversold buy 20. I'm crossing seat belts, if I have time, to help the inflight because I care more about them than I do screwing managment.
I'm really happy here for now and what the future holds. A new CBA will change my views for sure. I won't complain if it's bad, I'll just leave. If it's great I'll be super pumped and hope to retire from a company called JetBlue Airways.
Negotiations suck, I'm optimistic the majority of our pilot group is strong willed and we just doesn't complain in droves on APC like the regional forums do.

My point exactly. We need a CBA, but this place isn't bad. I think most of the negativity is from people that would complain no matter where they are. Me being positive about JetBlue does not mean that I will vote yes to a mediocre CBA.

Just for comparison: 2 year plus one month guy, W2 showing 109K as of last pay (includes profit sharing of course), commuter, try for 82 hr average month, average 14 days off. Redeye bump was about 5K.

$130k is an average at best income if you live in any of the 3 out of the 5 bases where home prices are $500k+ or rent over $2000 a month. First year pay is poverty in these bases. Yes, it's probably amazing if you live in middle of nowhere Indiana where you can live like a king, but some people refuse to put themselves through the torture of commuting.
