Kalitta Air (K4) Information
#1161
No one in the know is going to post it here. Just keep in mind that if we were to be sold, the operation is worth way more than the parts, so it’s highly unlikely to be broken up and sold off.

K4ers
Long time listener first time caller. I want to ask for opinions on the long-term viability of K4? I was fortunate to get hired in early 2016 and have upgraded due to the amazing growth but it scares me just a little. I rarely get to ask the senior guys anymore what they think the long-term out look is (on the 767 now). The latest information I was told is there is a direct correlation between Connie growth and what Ned Wallace is suggesting as far as aircraft purchases ect. I want to make K4 a career airline but I just cant seem to get any good answers on what the long term plans is (except for the same thing we’ve all been told concerning a 5 year board/plan after Connie). I know it will all be speculation but I’d like to hear it!
Thanks

K4 has been the greatest secret/flying job I have ever known. I hope you all get a chance to experience this place.

To be quite Frank, I am much more concerned about my own long term outlook. Doesn't matter if you are at K4, DL, AA, UPS, FedEx, UA, etc. If you lose your medical, that's all she wrote. I hope K4 is around until the day I retire, but I am planning for it not to be or for loss of my medical. This is really SOP for every pilot, is it not? To have a plan B, C, D, etc? Starting off with having no debt, followed by additional income streams.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to update their resume lately after being moved to the second stage? I received the second stage email months ago and have tried to update due to promotion, but replying to the Kalitta email gives me a post undeliverable. I'm afraid my application was lost in the pile due to the amount of time since it was moved to the second stage. I have kept up with this thread since the beginning so I am aware of what was happening with the hold on interviews until the beginning of the year. I am a 135 large cabin captain with vast international and oceanic experience as well as a Michigan native so I thought I might hear something back. Thanks for any help!

Expect to start somewhere on the East coast, CVG, ORD, West coast, but once in a blue moon, maybe airline somewhere international. Complete that flight, look on your phone for what is planned next. Maybe your going to Turkey, maybe Western Europe, or somewhere in the Pacific. Maybe you'll have four days in Hong Kong, or maybe you thought you were going to, but end up getting min rest and repositioning to someplace nearby for a pop up charter. Towards the end of your tour, you'll see a trend that should move you back towards home, but some times that can be hard to decipher and a phone call is in order for "clarification." You find out for operational needs they need to have you work an important flight close to your go home day and they will have to buy you a very long business class ticket back to the USA to have you home on time. Or perhaps things simply go as planned.
It is more random than rolling two dice and depends where you are in the system at a specific time and if you are close to timing out or have a 1 in 7.
The only accurate answer anyone can ever give you is that you owe the company 16 days a month, and you don't have a clue where you're going to wind up. If this scares you, please go apply to a major for your own sanity. If you like the randomness and finding yourself all over the world, and like adventures, then you will love it here.
