My crystal ball says so, half the time it is 100% correct.
Exactly!! The world "crash" in 2008/9 didn't phase him, aircraft sat waiting in OSC for a trip and it didn't cost him a dime as he owed zero as he does on 90% of the 400's now. Apart from making furloughs too deep but they soon learnt about that. The military like the 744, the -8 they can't get their K Loaders to fit without crunching a wing, so the 744 will be going for a while with them. As for using the 777 on Military stuff they (military) consider it a medium lift aircraft and pay the same as the 767, so you won't see 777's doing that flying anytime soon. When this Coronavirus 'scare' is over, there is already a huge backup of freight to move.

I have always heard he outright owns many of the planes. Has anyone ever cited this or heard from a reliable source?

How deep did furloughs go the two(?) times they happened? I guess a percentage would be appropriate considering we are much larger now.

I thought that progressive phasing out of B744 and MD11 capacity was already planned. See this little snippet from the transcom exec working group meeting in Nov 2017: "Other than one exception using the high end planning scenario, there is also sufficient capacity given projected fleet replacements of B747 and MD-11 with B777s".

Hmm, something else rings a bell but I cannot remember the details. It had to do with 777 cargo floor modifications. Maybe someone knows more on the subject.

If you work for the company, check the aircraft specifications PDF on the intranet under Phone/Forms. The current ownership status of each tail is there.

... but to assume that there are no business loans, that parking 747’s cost him nothing, and that we are assured business on airplanes others are dumping left and right is typical K4 lemming effect. It’s myth and idolization. It feels good but no one really knows what’s going on.

To add to the points you made, the phasing out of 400's and MD11's, could that make Western Global the proverbial canary in the coal mine? MD11's are starting to have a parts availability crisis according to my connections at Fed Ex and UPS.

For the 777 or 747? Congratulations. Were you one of the K2 guys?
