Got a couple questions for the group here. I forgot to ask them during the interview last week. I thought I was reading somewhere you are based in YIP for training, is that still the case? I was asking a lot of the guys while we were waiting and they said a hotel will be provided but I thought that was on us. How much flying are guys actually getting to log per month in particular new hires? Initially what would our schedules look like on the 747? Do they tend to use you on reserve? how often do you not make it back on your last day? How much deadheading is there? I see deadhead is 50% so just curious. Is most of the deadheads domestic like repositioning? Do you get stuck in a middle seat? Where do most of the 747 trips tend to start?

I will answer the middle seat question as I haven't seen that one recently. They often buy tickets at the last minute. If you don't have status on a particular airline or alliance you might get a middle seat. Having said that, I live in a very popular Florida city and can count on one hand the times I haven't been able to avoid a middle seat in 8.5 years. Many times just politely asking at the gate will be enough to get a aisle or window as they are often trying to move families together and a single pax in a middle seat is an easy move for the agents. Deadheading for me is about 50/50 domestic/international.

Hiring Window Closed?
Just went to the Pilot Recruitment Page and clicked on the link to apply. When I did, the workforce page it linked to states, "We are no longer accepting applications for this position."
Did the window close already or is this user error?
Thanks!

I’m going with user error. I clicked on it, and it goes to a “tell us about yourself” page. Make sure you’re clicking on the FO listing since apparently there’s a couple fleet chief pilot positions listed.

Sorry about the confusion here I was curious if new hires out of training would chime in on their schedules. I was under the impression a lot of the information on those ALPA post was more in line with people having a little seniority. Guess I am just stuck in a regional mindset where reserve for a while means min pay and unfavorable work rules/conditions and no flight time. I flew 9 hrs on reserve a few months back and was just curious what to expect. Got to get used to the fact it is a little different from what I am used to. From the ALPA post it says to expect 80-90 hours a month of credit and was curious is that all at the hourly rate or should you expect 10-15 hrs a month at half rate for deadheads?

Take everything you know about scheduling from the regionals and throw it out the window. None of it applies. Reserve doesn’t mean reserve. Reserve at K4 means for the most part that you get 4 hours of pay for being on the hook 1 day. In almost 3 years I’ve never been called while on reserve. I’m sure it happens, but I’ve never had it. There are reserve lines, but you will fly on those.
80-90 hours is your pay. That means Flying/deadheads/reserve. The 50% is already accounted for.
It’s a different world man. Just plan on being gone 16 days a month, and during that time you will have no idea where you are going. You will generally know the day prior, maybe 2 days if you’re extremely lucky.
