This is one thing that I don't miss flying overseas. It is amazing how well your RT will become when you are working in an environment that others do not speak English as a first language. We monitor guard from the time we start our pushback until we block in. That is just how it is. If there is an ELT going off, of course we turn it down. (Not off). Once the ELT fades, we turn it back to a low level. Just so we can hear if someone is calling us.
Pet peeves are something different. I am always amazed at how bad the mainline US carriers RT are when they are outside of the US. It is like it is their first day on the radio over here. Do you guys even prepare for the arrival or approach prior to switching to approach control? It would seem not with all of the "say agains" that I hear. I mean really, get the ATIS, look at the approach plates, and you can figure out what arrival you are going to get at 99% of the airports you operate at.

For what it's worth, I've NEVER flown/jumpseated with someone making any of the 121.5 "comments" or "sounds" at the regional, LCC, or Legacy level. Obviously, it's a daily occurrence. Florida is almost always silent. I agree with the previous post that once you get up in the ATL area, it starts to kick off and once in the northeast corridor, all bets are off, it's continuous. I assume it's *mostly* regional guys just based off of the locations where it is and ISN'T happening. This should be crossposted in the "Regional" forum. I don't see anything wrong with a quick "you're on 121.5" if it's the 3rd mistaken transmission or so to help the other person out, especially if it's a GA guy making traffic calls, but the back and forth play and even the guys that try to lecture on the frequency is definitely getting old.

Are we still beating our heads against this wall? Really? Does your #2 comm radio not have a volume control?
Much like monsters under the bed and the boogeyman, guard trolls will go away if you ignore them.

Final thought: if you really wanna get meta about it, it could be argued that these threads about guard trolls are just another form of guard trolling...

Self-righteous? Childish? Lets see, the poster that I was referring to called out the RJ drivers. I was bringing some other points to consider. And yes there are alot of people that have a chip on their shoulder about RJ drivers. So tell me, what is childish or self-righteous about that?
Cool about frontier. Can you certify that No frontier pilots ever get bored and start a guard war?
So im guessing my little post hurt somebodys bottom. Im sowy.

My feelers are just fine, thanks for thinking of them though.

Not condoning it, but to the OP and anyone else bent out of shape about this- I suspect most of the people that are mad about guard shenanigans are people who are getting paid a fair wage to sit in their seat. Have a little forethought that, most likely, the people f ing around on guard are the people who are NOT being paid a fair wage to be doing the exact same thing you're doing for 1/3-1/4 the paycheck. Most likely regional pilots and ULCC pilots who are flying the exact same plane you're flying for 1/2 or 1/3 the pay that you're getting. Not saying it's professional or ok, but I can understand it. There are guys getting paid 36/hr to be an FO on a A321, that guy can do whatever the ******* he wants as long as it's safe, as far as I'm concerned. You're wasting your breath on this, go volunteer at ALPA to help get equal pay for your pilot brethren and the guard chatter would disappear on its own

+1 million, Spaaks, who cares about guard shenanigans. It's annoying but we have bigger fish to fry collectively.

And how long ago was that? Accounting for inflation? Almost all regional fo's make under 60/hr which is mcdonalds wages. You pay mcdonalds wages, you get mcdonalds quality. Most pilots act as professionally as the company treats them. The sim instructors/check airman, they make 150k+ a year at regionals and they act professional. The company tells the fo's, you're only worth30-40k/yr so that's all the effort I'm going to put in. Same with frontier and other poorly paid ulcc lcc's for example. Most guys take pay cuts to go from flying a 50 seat rj to flying a 220 seat Airbus 321. What do you think that says to the pilot about how the company sees them. If you pay them and treat them like the professional they are, they will act like it. If you pay them like a professional, you can FORCE them to act like a professional. If you don't pay them and treat them like a professional, you can only HOPE they act like a professional because you need them more than they need you (which is where we are in the industry today).
