True, those were bad years (except 2013-2015) but even still no one took a hit unless they sold when the market was down. That's the time to buy more, not sell. The problem is most people make financial decisions based on fear. If those who sold low had stayed in the market through the downturn, they'd have about 3 times their money compared to the bottom of the market in the 2009-2011 timeframe.

QOL? Senior FO lineholder on a widebody sounds way better than a Jr captain on reserve flying a narrowbody

Default EVA Air- Star Alliance Member!!

Just to put in context and for comparison what airlines outside US is paying!
1) Airline employer- EVA Air
2) Seat- FO
3) Equipment- B744
4) Years of Service with company- 2 years
5) How many days you worked- 227 days, not counting 12 days spent on commuting back and forth to US
6) How many overnights you had- 190 days
7) How many hours you blocked- 938:35
8) How many hours did you credit- Block=credit=938:35 (1/3rd of it in the bunk)
9) Expected gross income- $109,423 ($95,000 net, and inclusive of $11,520 per diem and $5,527 in overtime, and includes bonus of $10,310) pay remains the same unless you upgrade to captain or relief captain, approximate $15,000 extra for relief captain and $30-35 K more for captains.
10) No 401K or pension. You do get paid approximately 60 months salary based on your last six months salary if you stay with the company till 65. On the upside, no need to pay taxes in the US.

Widebody/narrowbody does not matter at UPS. All fleets pay the same.

It is a matter of better schedule (senior F/O) or more $$$ (upgrade)

The junior capt schedules can be pretty crappy, from what I hear.

For the most part you can, at FedEx. Though we have fo's who stay in the seat till retirement. There is a difference between a decent schedule and a fantastic one, and some people value their seniority more than money.

However, the person being questioned is at UPS.
