2017 W2 Earnings

I don't want to use my 1st ever post as a Johnson Measurement Post, but as far as I could tell, no one posted a larger number than me, but I had to quit scrolling as my vision began to fail me.
My take is this:
1.) I'm sitting here listening to my dad's "death rattle." The earliest memory of my entire life is my dad and that signature white cover the Pan Am pilots wore! Ladies and gentlemen, we're not taking any of this with us when we're gone! But we're leaving behind memories for other people!
2.) I'm military, did the minimum time I had to do on active duty and was picked up by SWA in 2000, and still serve, now in a non flying role in the reserves.
3.) I'm pushing 50 years old, no wife, no ex, no kids. That used to be a badge of honor I wore. Now, watching this old man die, all I can think of is he is leaving me, my brothers and sisters, and a plethora of grand kids behind. People who will always remember him as bigger than life!
My point? TAKE YOUR 300K ish money and run if your max pay Capt ladies and gents! You can get ridiculous and probably pick up another $175k if your clever. But you and only you know if it's truly worth it.
*** It's always been a source of pride, and produced many a chuckle with me, that I can be flying 73's and making more than any international Captain I know. But I'll guarantee you one thing, I flew 2, probably 3 times as many actual hours than them. Who is getting the better deal? That's a debate that can not be won.

One of my most memorable flying memories as a child involved a trip across the Atlantic in a Pan Am 747. That trip helped set the stage for what would become my passion. If it wasn’t for Pan Am, I may have never felt that spark.

My old man was PAA as well. The old Clipper Pioneers are leaving us in droves these days.

And not to sound like a dating service or Dear Abby, but in my line of work I meet many guys who find themselves single in their 30s or 40s. Sometimes--it is there fault. Sometimes--it is not. Men get their hearts broken at times too.
What I have always told those guys, however, is that if there was EVER a job for someone who wanted to rebound (or in your case--"bound"), this is a great profession. You are mobile, have money, and a prestigious career. In this lonely world, I'm sure there are a least a couple lonely non-psychotic types who would be happy ever after if you brought them into your life. In short--50 ain't done, and you've got a lot of happiness left to give. My dad passed when I was 39, and it made me feel very old at the time. In hindsight, I realized that is a natural reaction. Mourn as you must, take the lessons learned, but get back into life. You got a lot of good livin yet to do....
And...fantastic post. My condolences....

Southwest
6 yr F/O
Pay: $222,395
B-Fund: $29,800 @ 13.4% of Pay
Profit Sharing: 24,463 @11% of Pay for 2017 (assumed, will be ~11.2)
Per Diem: $5,433
Total Compensation: $282,093
Caveats:
1)Live in domicile and during the slow months I actively trade my trips for reserve to sit at home and then pick up premium (or straight pay if I have to) if I was not used on the reserve block -- which was a fair amount because we are a bit overmanned on F/O's.
2) # of days actually flying: 161 or avg. of 13.4 days per month
3) 2 weeks of vacation pay @ 50 and 51 TFP per week
4) Two paid 3-day trip sick calls

I need to look into that method. I’ve tried bidding OT after getting rid of stuff and failed miserably the last two months. Bid premium on over 50 trips with a whopping zero awarded, and yes I meet the requirements.

Yep, that doesn't surprise me at all. Majority of FO open time is going out at straight time. Reserves are sitting and getting paid -- sucks for the commuters, great if you live in domicile. The company is trying to remedy the mismatch in Capt/FO manning by doing ~700 upgrades this year.
