Because the “normal person” was being a completly rude, unstable and nasty A hole.

Bologna. Being overweight is not a disability. If a person buys a ticket they have a right to expect not to have their seat back kicked, have to listen to other people being obnoxious or their videos playing on speaker, or not be squeezed by someone who’s too big to fit into a seat.

GMAFB. These people that squeezed her in had a disability?! You’re joking right?

She could have handled it way better but I totally understand why she went off the deep end.

So, let me get this straight. You're suggesting that we take away the assigned seating of these premium paying pax to give it to the dregs of our customer base? Who do you think paid more for their seats? I bet it was those two people sitting on the aisle and window seats (why?...because they got an aisle and window). That lady probably got a center seat because she was a basic economy, no assigned low budget customer. Her last flight was probably 5 years ago on the cheapest ticket available at the time. Those are the type that get on flights and try to show off and come across like an experienced pax but end up causing problems and acting like a**holes. I've seen this show too many times.

I'm pretty sure I know which contributed more to my bonus in the last year.

Adding more seats isn’t causing this problem. More seats hurts tall people. One exception is planes like 777 going from 9 to 10 abreast. That’s not the issue in the 737 which has always been six abreast.

And I agree with others pointing out the obvious fact that being fat isn’t a disability, it’s a consequence.

The japanese tax the overweight and also culturally look down on excess weight. They subsequently have less than 4% of their population as obese. We are at 35-40% obese. I don't think it is fat shaming to call for a self assessment. This lady was off her rocker but I get the frustration. We need to radically change our diet and our acceptance of being overweight as the new normal isn't healthy. Our crew meals are 90% carbs in some cases domestically... the ******* who planned that meal is probably 400 lbs.

You dip****s missed the point entirely. I didn't refer to obesity as a disability. Referring to people as either "special" or "normal" is regarded as highly offensive by people with disabilities. The complete lack of empathy among modern humans is seriously the root cause of many of society's ills.

COS couples play the game too. They book window and aisle on purpose, hoping middle will go empty or have a situation where a guy assigned to it relocates to another seat, giving them middle seatopen free.
