I am asking because of a conversation I had with a friend who had a severe turbulence encounter.

Regional - voice : Nah, I was too busy putting my shoulder belts back on.
That's actually my standard for when I take it off. Exact altitude depends on MSL and seasonal waterfowl density. PHX in Jul it might be at gear up.

I keep the lap belt snug enough to hopefully keep my forehead out of the overhead if that happens.
