$2000 for a 1br is actually a pretty healthy budget. I second the Aventura or Sunny Isles. You can get an apartment on or near the beach with amenities like a nice gym and valet. Not really a party scene but nice restaurants and a big mall. Halfway between FLL and MIA but going East/West on a Friday at rush hour can be a struggle. It's a corny website name but https://www.bestofluxuryrealty.com/ will kind of give you an idea.

Broward is nice, as mentioned Hollywood is very nice. Hallandale and dania Beach is also nice. Low crowds at places such as publix, gyms and general stores etc... considering it's S. FL. Driving always depends on traffic. If you report between 0500-0800 traffic southbound is very light. Around 730 on 95 it starts to build up, and usually lasts till around 9 ish. Nirthbound anywhere from 1600 to 1830. If you are doing 3-4 day trips really not an issue, will get old if all you are doing is turns. PM if you like i can give more details

Does anyone have any input on Coral Gables? Found some interesting properties and the commute to the airport seems extremely reasonable.

I would add that all of SE Florida is setup for N-S travel. E-W travel can be maddening even for short distances.
The best counter to this is to live someplace that has good access to I-95 or the Turnpike. Avoid I-595 at all costs. It’s a parking lot 8 hours a day.

I appreciate the input. The traffic situation kind of has me a little worried because at my company we are over 50% day turns out of MIA right now.

As I type this I'm stuck in the back seat of an Uber. Stuck in dead stopped traffic at 1545 on a Monday.

I would steer clear of the suburbs. It's not that those areas are terrible or dangerous (although some are), they're just very much Latin dominated and also very insular. You're gonna be the odd man out if you're non-Hispanic and can't speak conversational Spanish.
Props to you on being single with no kids as Miami is best done as a single person IMO. Just do it right...get a nice place in the happening spot of town, hang out for a year or two, and then get the hell out. Nothing about the city is setup for longterm enjoyment and it will drive your soul into the dirt after awhile.
Bienvenido a Miami! The scenery is beautiful, the egos run sky high, and the yoga pants are on a whole different level of tightness that you didn't even know existed. Enjoy!
