That isn't what I said. Guy asks for advice about going to 3 of the highest compensating carriers in the US and the reply was, have you thought about ACMI. That's like if a guy wants to buy a Porsche and the reply is, have you considered a Hyundai Elantra.

They don't b!tch, but in the 21st century they do on occasion spontaneously combust. I have long-haul friends who lose sleep over that pallet of batteries on over-water flights.

I’ll take the extremely remote chance of a unstable battery over the almost certainty of dealing with unstable flight attendants or passengers, especially these days with the mask Nazis and cellphone Karen’s running around. Freight is a beautiful thing.

So death vs annoyance on the other side of a locked door, haha

Statistically I’d wager that you have a better chance of death from driving to work than you do flying either a passenger or freight trip. Being that the odds of death resulting from the job are minuscule, I’d still take boxes over people any day. We are all nothing more than hourly paid heavy equipment operators. I’d prefer the path with the least amount of hassle and the most amount of money since the name of the game is maximum dollars per day balanced with the number of days off.

We share the same dilemma... just now about to upgrade at a regional but 1.5 - 2 years down the road view is sort of bleak due to the commuting.

Unless you're with an airline who has installed safety systems on the airplane to deal with that exact scenario.

I know progress has been made, especially after the DXB incident. Not sure how much of that is regulatory, vice airline policy.

In sum total, the safety regs for 121 pax operations (cargo, 117) are a factor to consider but obviously not the only factor, and individuals can weight it in any manner they see fit. I considered safety because of my family. Pax majors don't have DXB or BHM events in recent history.

You make fair statements, until your last sentence. Using DXB and BHM as your proof that cargo is somehow less safe overall is a bit disingenuous. Considering the events of 9/11 were all on “Pax majors”…”in recent history,” you appear to be cherry picking to support your life decisions.

Realizing it doesn’t matter until an offer is in hand, there are definitely some steps I can take now to better position myself depending on where I want to prioritize going, which is the reason for the question. Hoping some folks can provide insights on what options may be best, if there even is one ‘best’. Not sure if it matters a whole lot for the discussion, but assume a regional captain, internal recs at each place, less than 500 TPIC right now (I know a lot more is needed for Fdx).

Delta
Easy commute to SLC. 3-5 flights a day.

United
Easy commute to DEN. 5-10 flights a day.

FedEx
Not served by Fdx. Closest place Fdx goes is a ~2 hr drive. Possibility of someday holding a line with double deadheads is very appealing for obvious reasons. But having to commute to a Fdx base for 30 years sounds daunting. Being gone more than 6-7 days at a time would be tough.

FX - You can get a double DH line on the 757 pretty quickly. Even if not, you can still use accumulated deviation bank to buy a ticket to domicile to start a non DH trip. You will not be gone more than 6-7 days at a time. You will fly nights. You do not need much more than 500TPIC to get hired at FedEx in 2022.
