Flying around, looking out the window, doing fun approaches, taking off, landing, chit chatting with other pilots and flight attendants, traveling, trying new food. To me it’s an objectively enjoyable experience and I think it’s a good use of my time. I take satisfaction in moving people where they need to go safely and being an important little cog in the grand machine of human society. If you have a good attitude I can understand not wanting to just stop if you didn’t have to. So I think I can see why someone would fly as long as they could.
I work like 6-10 days a month sitting reserve locally so ask me in a couple years how I feel if they ramp up the ops tempo. Maybe I’ll have a different attitude.

I get it. It’s hard for a person who has pinned their entire identity on their job to turn the page. They go through a career telling folks “I did the Aspen flying” or badging their bags/selves with “look at me I was in the military” stuff then suddenly: 65.. poof, now what? Folks need hobbies.

Entitlement to the same life style they’re in until death. That’s the perspective. Downsize despite still commanding a six figure salary elsewhere? That’s socially unjust! Learn a new aircraft or ops spec? No! I’m too old for that! Can’t be bothered!

I prefer to refer to it as the “Seniority is sacred, until it’s inconvenient for me” act.

Young vets getting off active duty and not disclosing VA disability doesn't have much to do with age 67. Let's keep that discussion in the Pilot Health forum where it started...

Remember folks... You need to put your careers on hold because Gramps and the company want you to. Anyone trying to fly past 55 is a lunatic anyway, and/or just stinks at life choices.

But folks much over 40 did not enjoy the meteoric trajectory you have today. I personally enjoyed about a decade in the right of regional airfcraft and that was back when it didn't pay six figures... on the low end of five figures

Being 52 I don't see where you're coming from.
