The new contract is great… work rules and premium makes up for the lower rates.

How is that even possible. Your average credit is 142 hours a month? What's your average days off

There never was a repo.

That was about my average at my regional after upgrading. Got 179 but knew people who got a lot more. Worked quite a bit for it though. About time regional pay rigs and premium make it to mainline.

That dude's post is gold, and I a glad he posted it here. A first year regional pilot is making way more than someone with years of experience flying an airplane off the front of a carrier into the dark of night with no divert options. Let that sink in. It's a good time to be in this industry.

His numbers are certainly eye opening for many, but I also know they are skewed. The housing and food allowances are tax free so they actually would be something like 15% higher, apples to apples. The same with medical. It's a massive income multiplier that isn't quite captured in his information. So don't try and discredit people for putting perspective on military compensation numbers

Sit 12 hours airport standby, THEN get called for a 8-10 hour duty period that turns into 12-14 ACTUAL DUTY.

I guess I did it the other way. 6am to 10am airport reserve? Yeah ok. Usually at the Starbucks outside security by 0730, quick badge through KCM and maybe a cruise through the terminal for plausible deniability then usually headed home around 0900. Easy peasy.:D

And yeah, there was never a repo.

This airline flying is by far the most boring flying you will ever do.....how guys do 40 years of LGA-DFW without going crazy is beyond me. Wait, I get it, they do JFK-LHR over and over also.

That's so true, but at the same time the work-in vs money-out is beyond comparison. I think I averaged 9 days of work/month last year. Add that to the check of the month club and $300/yr health care and it's a great place to be in retirement. Couldn't even even compare that to my slowest time in the military, even pre-9/11.

In exchange for “the flying is not as cool,” you receive:

-more than double the compensation
-almost complete control over where you live and what you do with your life
-no extra duties on top of flying the jet
-more time to pursue other hobbies/spend time with family.

I’ll take that trade every day. The grass is very much greener.

Did you endure the regional FO life the last 25 years before the $100k signing bonuses?

Show me an F-18 driver that had to endure more than a warmup in the regionals before getting an interview somewhere else.
