The follow up answer was not that the former ATI would not be capable to be a CA on the 75/76. It was that the early upgrade was not worth it because the hit to QOL would be so detrimental. Waiting to upgrade until 5-7 years would be optimal for pay and QOL. That’s what I surmised the point to be.

At face value if you and the other guy are insinuating that the gentleman is claiming you are not fit to upgrade, then you took it entirely wrong. He is talking about QOL. There is a reason that FOs pass on junior upgrades.
I did misunderstand the posters point, in that case. The QOL consideration certainly makes sense. Thanks.

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

One man’s trash, another man’s treasure.
Upgrade at DL is in NYC, on a fleet that isn’t growing, with very dated, old technology, on routes that are shrinking in stage length.
You’ll be on indefinite reserve (best guess is five years). Any black swan and you’ll probably be displaced. No weekends or holidays off.
But…. Raises hand, I’ll take it. Living in NYC domicile and trading 70% FO seniority on the 7ER for 98% CA seniority was an easy choice for me. Our reserve rules ain’t bad, and are getting better.

oh and to the moron that thinks a less than one year upgrade is a good thing… WTF? How many pilots are at Delta? About 15k, let say half are FOs. That means 7,00 FO wanted nothing to do with that upgrade. That is not a good thing.

10 year upgrade is to much.
2 year upgrade is to little
5-7 is just right.
Totally agree. These fantasy threads are cool but meaningless. Top pay scales, top seniroity predictions only really matter to those who are already on property. Each class date could be the difference between having a job or being furloughed. You're only fooling yourself if you think you can plan more than a couple of years ahead, there's always something that comes up in this business. And we all have buddies who've done seemingly strange lateral moves from each Legacy carriers, so what really matters is where you think you'd be a good fit, not what your seniority will be at 65.

The difference between the junior 767 CA and the junior line holding 767 CA is 10,000 employee numbers. And if you want to hold weekends off as a line holding wide body captain, just give it 30 years

If you are a new hire, and you are number 15,000 on the list and you think you are going to hold a good schedule as a Captain you are delusional

But there's more to it than just numbers... consider domiciles, culture, etc. I sure wouldn't commute if If could live in base for any of those three.
Pure numbers I would add UPS, you’ll get pay in the Group 4(AA) and 764(DL) your entire career and possibly be wide body captain for a long long time after 6+- years. Not to mention all the other great bennies.
hella.

not what we said. Definitely plan, but fantasy numbers about where you will end up on a seniority list in the future is gambling, not planning.
