You pay a reduced amount because you benefit from the contract the Union negotiated. Stop trying to get things for free on the backs of others.

Right, and if you believe that then Hillary has some land in Arkansas to sell you. Look up the word "fungible"
There’s a list of alpa pac contribution fund recipients/amounts. It's fairly transparent. Last I looked it was well distributed between both parties. Ted Cruz had just received some coin if that helps.

Please enlighten me how exactly your preferred union and nonunion setup would work? Contract negotiation starts, the company plays hardball, the union goes on strike, and the nonunion workers go into work and just keep the company going? Seriously what exactly do you think that would accomplish besides you getting a better union negotiated contract that other people pay for?

Sonic, you still haven't answered the question: Why are the best jobs in the piloting profession union?

Yeah, that's the point! A union doesn't work unless everyone pays. Rob you? Really? More like you are robbing your fellow pilots if you want to enjoy the benefits of a union while not paying for it.

There are strict rules backed up with significant penalties that keep PAC money we pay separate from dues money. I believe there was a DALPA podcast episode where they talked about this.

Honestly, you need to actually learn about pilot unions and what they have done for this profession because you just sound terribly misinformed. Yes they are definitely not perfect but I would never work for a non-union airline.

Easy solution for those who choose not to join their union. Exempt vs Non-exempt Employee...

Exempt employees usually hold administrative, professional, or executive positions. They're “exempt” from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime regulations and, therefore, not entitled to overtime pay. Nonexempt employees are typically paid hourly and perform more manual or technical duties.

Win win for one and all. Company save money on negotiated salaries and benefits and the employee gets to fly an airplane.

I consider it an umbrella policy on my career. Why wouldn't you get it if you are paying for it anyway.

I would actually be surprised if they don't have to represent you regardless of status.

I've figured out how not to get violated at this point, and if I did I'd get a real lawyer anyway.
