There are a few retirements I am looking forward to celebrating.
LEPF hosted a luncheon for Lindsey Graham on April 23rd. It was a chance to meet him and voice your concerns about raising the age with a $500 suggested donation to attend.
The Senator was a no show.

Amazing. I can't wait until it gets stalled. These poor old guys just can't let go.

According to their FB post…“The bill has been filed. It takes a few days to show up in the public access area. It does have a bit of a different language than the house Bill. There is no retroactivity language. It is co-sponsored by Senator Kelly. Senator Grassley will sign onto it. Also, some of the language changed to be in conformance with the current statute which is a change from the last time they submitted it, but don't sweat the small stuff. The bill has been submitted now we have to work on getting the two bills to read exactly the same”

Problem being this Congress has only six months to live. If it ever happens, highly doubtful this year.

Yeah, a stand alone bill would need 60 votes.

A few of their members keep bringing up it being attached to a reconciliation bill. That would be tough as reconciliation limits any changes to strictly being budget related. It might slip through the house, but they should google the Byrd Rule.

Don't forget one of the major reasons it didn't get support last Congress is because there was nothing in the bill that addressed that would happen if ICAO didn't adopt age 67, which they in fact didn't. I'm sure there will be briefings submitted by the airlines that will outline potential operational disruptions and financial challenges to them having to employ pilots who can't leave the country.

Getting something through this highly functional and competent Congress in the next six months should be a piece of cake.

So we have what, nearly 2k pilots out on the street with whispers of other ULCC airlines in trouble, and these folks think that now is the time for them to get a little cherry on top?
