I disagree. My AME has made some statements that make me question HIS mental state. The idea that I am going to be evaluated by guy who believes in aliens and that Bill Gates put chips in the COVID vaccine is a little terrifying.
And I have also met a few AME Special Issuance doctors, I wasn't impressed either. They might be great at administering an objective test, but I find it hard to believe an AME who might be senile themselves who has spent the last 25 years referencing old medical standards from the 1960s is going to be proficient enough to administer some new cognitive test.
Just look out our own government. Apparently identifying zoo animals means you passed the most strenuous cognitive test.

I see your point on calibration standards and the resulting accuracy of such tests. Some of the tests are computer scored which takes the subjectivity out of it, but there is still a human component involved. Given the depth and breadth of testing + the administrative difficulties = more reasons to keep things as they are.

The “old government” tests used for the aforementioned anomalies have none of what you mentioned.

And now the kooks at EPAS have weighed in with a cringe-worthy diatribe.

Amazing lack of self-awareness, as usual.
As a side note, one of the players at EPAS retired maybe a year ago. A little bird told me he got into some hot water with the FAA on his last 121 flight, and ultimately his post-retirement flying gig was cut short, even though his last landing wasn't.
The point is, the most rabid "raise the age" guys, who are most inclined to blame young pilots, need to look in the mirror. If they even have the mental acuity to do that.

Basically senior(and old) pilots want to extend the retirement age at the detriment of everyone junior to them. It’s a money grab but their rational is that they need to mentor the next generation of pilots.
The Embraer 145/140/135 has had 0 fatalities in its entire history. Horizon Air has 0 fatalities and Skywest has one but it wasn’t the crews fault. So the mentorship argument is BS.
They previously cited the pilot shortage but we now have 2000 Spirt pilots on the street.
They are self centered and selfish. The end.

If you can't laugh at a #2 pencil and a Scantron, you must either be young or have no sense of humor about things.
