I can tell you that, he needs to go in and see John Mills. He is the guy that gives a thumbs up or down and then it moves to Arnie. Arnie is getting too many unsolicited e-mails and phone calls to deal with it himself. They are always happy to have a DELTA pilot come on in to the office to pitch a candidate.
That said, if you have someone willing to do this. Get the app done perfectly, get a good resume, and send it to them. This way when he walk in and they meet with him face to face, they will be able to see that it was not something that you threw together. Rather it is your BEST foot forward, and that you really want to be here. Then John will look at it. See if it is what they are looking for, and then forward it to Arnie, who will give it the ultimate thumbs up or down.
Let me stress that this app has to be error free. Not just spelling, but punctuation, grammar, as well as ever box that needs to be filled out is done so correctly and efficiently. It truly has to show that you took a ton of time with this. DO you times need to add up, but you need to show why. IE make sure that any weird things on your app can be explained by the guy or gal walking your stuff in. They need to KNOW you not just be acquainted with you. Get me drift.
We have over 12K apps on file. They want the best, not just someone that will do. When there is an idiot that gets through the process and get on line, they hear about it. Success to them, is great comments in the evals that every Captain that you fly with fills out. They also like to hear that the individuals are making flying with pleasurable. They have made sure that people that cannot answer the questions correctly in the interview do not make it through. That is why there are so many busts in that area as of late. You must be able to represent yourself well on paper and in person. Show that you are a polished individual that takes pride in everything you do. It is a lot of BS, but it helps see the forest from the trees.

Great post! As someone going thru the process, i can't emphasize enough the importance to have the airlineapps updated and free of errors. That means, all the dates, address, name has to match. Common mistakes such as misspell, inconsistency in the employment history, residence history, educational history must be corrected before Capt. Mills sees your apps.

Make sure you have someone from non-aviation background proof read your apps, so that your apps doesn't have anything that would stand out in a non-pilot's view.

The more personal your DL sponsor can talk to Capt Mills, the more likely your apps will get picked up. He's a very busy person, so it may take couple visits, but it's well worth it. Once you're out of the big stack, you're weeks away before the invitation to interview comes to your email inbox.

I had my buddy walk in and my app was pulled. I filled it out a while ago and never really went through the application. My buddy told that the application had a bunch of mistakes and the guy was not to happy. I reviewed my application and was ashamed what a **** poor job I did. I spent 5 hours making sure everything was perfect. Hopefully I still have a shot

Good luck... I had couple mistakes when my apps was reviewed by Capt. Mills as well. He will send you an email saying what needs to be fixed, and they will know if you've updated your apps. The sooner you fix it, the sooner they may be able to pull your file.

Remember, the first part of your panel interview consists of 3 people trying to dig through your apps. Finding anything that seems out of place. They have been doing that for a long time, and the less time they spend on your apps, the more questions you can answer, and more chance of passing the interview. It really sets a bad tone if you walk into the panel interview, and you have to pen and ink bunch of stuff before you even start the "real" interview!

Also, they spent significant amount of time discussing your prior employment attendance history, with a piece of paper that you sign that allow them to look at that specifically. So i'd tell them everything about your former jobs that you miss work, i.e. sick calls, personal leave, fatigue, everything! If you missed a leg, part of the trip, couldn't finish the trip, not available for duty, or whatever reason, that's the time to let them know. Be conservative, if something you're not sure would pop up on the radar, let them know ahead to cover yourself. They may ask you about a specific incidence.

PM me if you need specific info

To add on to what's been written here: ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS get someone to proof read your application. You don't see the errors since you're "up close and familiar" with it.........others will pick up on errors since they "see" what you won't. It's like watching someone play chess.......you'll see all the moves they don't and what's funny is that they may NEVER see the moves you do even though they are soooooo obvious. Ever notice how the instructors pick up on so many things during your annual checkride??? It takes but a minute to save yourself not getting an interview or being embarrassed when you show up.....................

ACL65 knows his stuff, but I do not see how it could hurt to have a favorable reccommendation from a Chief Pilot at Delta. If nothing else, the Pilot Recruiting computer will show another internal rec., increasing your odds of getting the call for the interview.

Getting the call is very objective. The more boxes your application checks, the more likely it is you will get the invitation.
- Command Experience
- Bachelor's Degree
- IP, or LCA
- Master's Degree
- Internal LORs
- LOR from your CP and/or LCA
- Clean record
etc...

Moon shot - I would call again and talk to the CPO Manager. Very nice gentleman who will be glad to talk to you. If he has not returned your call, there has been some misconnect.

BIG P.S. ... EWRbased pilot is VERY correct! A friend of mine was not getting called because he failed to fill in an address for the drug screen question. He figured he had already completed that question several times, but when I walked his stuff in he did not get called because of "his attention to detail" was not up to snuff. He fixed his application and was called within the week.

Also to mention, once you obtain the interview, your LOR almost means nothing. During your big day, they will not take a look at those, and you don't even need to bother to print resumes to bring with you, cuz all they want is your airlineapps paperwork.

Also, one thing to remember when you do get the welcomed call and begin your journey for the interview is that EVERYONE is watching you. You may not think so, but the agents, FA's, janitors, receptionists, etc., are watching you. BE ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR AT ALL TIMES. You may not think someone can spoil your chances for a job because they're a janitor or receptionist, but you'd be wrong. ALL the employees can pull the mat out from under you. Conversely, someone can put in a good word for you when you've "screwed up" in the interview and you still end up with an offer. During the interview process, all is fair game!!! Good luck to everyone!!
